My mother found a stray cat last night and after quite a bit of begging she decided to keep it rather than send it to the SPCA but now the responsability of coming up with a name falls to me so any idea? I'm looking for something unique but I have no ideas right now

:boing: :boing:OOOO NEW KITTY CAT!!!! *claps at the use of begging to keep things!! :D :boing: :boing:

But I must agree with Sis here and say that we need to know more about the kitty herself... What's she like... What kind of circumstances was she found under...

The last cat I got (I brought her the 2.5 hours home from school in a borrowed carrier in the passenger seat of my car!) was abandoned near school and she's now the best cat... I named her Jersey... If you've seen Coyote Ugly, I thought the stories were a little similar of going from nothing to everything you want... hehe

Mom found her when she went for a walk (on a really deserted walking trail) shes already completly trained and really calm, except when suzy comes around, thats my dog, a japanese Chin. She tried to scratch her. Otherwise she is SO well behaved, really cuddly and even lies on her back to get her belly rubbed.

I liked Creamsicle, too. But Tangerine Dream isn't bad, either.

Or Sunkist (Sun-Kissed)?

Tangy?

I've apparently got citrus on my mind.....

The orange and white cat I had growning up was called Tigerlily. My newest, a white kitten I rescued last fall is named Emmylou, because she was a monster in the car going to the vet until Emmylou Harris came on the radio. My black kitty was called Rosalind, because I was doing As You Like It, but rapidly became Rosie, and then there's Wyckett, from Star Wars.

My friend Kym combines musician names with cartoon characters, so she has Thumberlena Horne and Marmaduke Ellington.

Of course, mythology provides lots of good cat names. And having had Tigerlily and Rosie, I lean toward botanical sources.

I'd have to vote against both "Belle" and "Lady Marmalade." They're both just plain wrong. . . :p though just "Marmalade" would be nice.

I'll offer the Geek suggestion: "Saavik." It's Romulan for "little cat."

Okay, Pb, I have to ask. . . is it because Labelle originally sangLady Marmalade ???

You do realize, whatever you call this cat, it's name will eventually get butchered into baby talk anyhow?

Phoenix Blue

Well, one out of two. I didn't know Labelle was the original singer for "Lady Marmalade." **Grins**

I've never been able to name cats normal names: my long haired all white male's name is Bacon (mother Pig, originally named Zig-Zag, sisters Hog & Pork Chop), his small all white short haired sister is Buddha, and my wiley black & white petite female is Nuke Itty (she's the "new kitty"). They're now Fuzzer or Boozer, Bude, & Nukum, respectively! Zig-Zag got her name because of two characteristics-all white & the tip of her tail did this wiggley thing. She got quite rotund, sho she became Ziggy-Piggy, then just Pig. So her kittlins were named as above. I have to agree that whatever you name her, it will be altered, at least once! I LOVE cats, and always take a couple of days to name them.
Some names from my past kittlins are:
Pookie, Greystar, Kitzy, Gizmo, Butterscotch, Zomberz, Chesna, Diddle, Taisha, and Zoe!
Hope I didn't ramble too much! Take your time, and you''l come up with the purrrrfect name!

I like Creamsicle but if I named it that, I would end up calling it "Creamy." I'm not sure that's cool.

I give my cat's names after literary characters.

Henry
Charlie
Daizey

Those are my babies. My sister has a totally orange cat named Rusty and she also has Gaby and Toby.

We give our cats people names . . . Hmmmmm :)

What about Dusk, Ciara (pronounced keyrah with a rolled r), or Shiownna (she-own-nah)?

Well, what's the name of the place where the cat was found? A friend of mine named her pony Cara (friend in Irish) because she was from a place called Carabeg, and I named mine Blaney after the place Dunblaney - okay, so those were both horse examples, but I'm sure it'd work for a cat.

Cara would be a nice name for a cat, actually.

There have been many cats in my life.

There was Elsa, Abigail, Smokey, Sue Lyn, Fruitcake, Milktoast, Tatoo, Knick Knack, Lollypop (shortened to Lolly), Emily, Citrus, terradactyl, Taffy, Zapatos, Shadow, and the ancient and wise "Cat."

According to heresy, does it matter what you call it? Maybe it will come...:) Maybe it won't. Is there a way of pronouncing the sound of a can opener opening a can of cat food?:T

I'll go now.

Then there's naming cats by theme.

Eric has a black cat named Duncan

I had a black cat named Angus

Then we adopted a blue-gray cat, and we named him

Haggis. :nonono: :ugh:

I have cats named Sidney (after Poitier) (spelling?) and Molly. I find that giving them more "human" names makes me feel like they're my Friends instead of my pets. They seem almost human-like at times, don't they?

What about Daisy?
Lily?
I have a thing for flowers, I guess.
