Militant, atheist writers are making an all-out assault on religious faith and reaching the top of the best-seller list, a sign of widespread resentment over the influence of religion in the world among nonbelievers................

Given the popularity of the anti-religion books so far, publishers are expected to roll out even more in the future. Lynn Garrett, senior religion editor for Publishers Weekly, says religion has been one of the fastest-growing categories in publishing in the last 15 years, and the rise of books by atheists is "the flip-side of that."

"It was just the time," she said, "for the atheists to take the gloves off."

What are you worried about????

Worried? I am just posting articles about what has been going on in the non-theistic community.

Uh....what are you worried about?

yeah there are a lot of very anti-religious people out there now, I think it's mostly the result of the control the religious right has here in the US and also the Islamic extremists and whatnot, the religious right has been building major influence since the 80s and now is time for a backlash. it happened in the 60s/70s too.

Well, Richard Dawkins is making a career out of it isn't he. he seems to have given up being a scientist.

a sign of widespread resentment over the influence of religion in the world among nonbelievers................
I presume that means it's the nonbelievers that are resentful, not that religion is having an influence over nonbeleivers ... perhaps they should have said "widespread resentment among nonbelievers over the influence of religion in the world ".

Yeah, that probably would have been an improvement.

I don't think that there are more very anti-religious people out there now than there have ever been. I think people have felt that way for a very long time. The difference now is that they can finally find and communicate with each other. This gives them the ability to join together and have a voice. In the past the lone anti-religious person was shouted down and socially abused just like the gays and Pagans were.

Gays, Pagans and non-theists have been targets for a long time. That is why it is good that there are places like MW where they can come together for mutual support and join together to have a political voice.

This is one major reason that I am so in favor of a place for a non-theistic forum on MW. Atheists may not be Pagans. But, we need some way to reinforce each other in areas of mutual concern.
