It was Spencer, and not Darwin, who coined the phrase "survival of the fittest".

Herbert Spencer -- Short version (http://cepa.newschool.edu/het/profiles/spencer.htm)

Herbert Spencer -- More in depth (http://www.iep.utm.edu/s/spencer.htm)

More interesting information to make you seem intriguing on dates. Only helpful when trying to lure those who like this kind of mind candy, of course.

Let 'em know that you have more going on than just a pretty face. Of course, you have a pretty face! Who said you didn't?

I personally haven't been one to get much into the beginnings of the theory of evolution. The past is being corrected quite regularly and who said what, for me, doesn't matter.
I am more an anthropology and scientific data type of girl. :)

But....;)
On the topic of survival. I think its the fittest, smartest or lucky that are the survivors. Humans used their brains to get on top of the food chain, but hopefully their smarts wont wipe them out.
A lot of critters can be very fit, but just one wrong move, miscalculated action and their dead, even if they were the strongest and baddest one in the bunch.
And sometimes fit ans smarts don't matter. The critter is here only because some dumb luck happened to prevent its fate. So a game of chance plays a role too, IMO.

I dont think survival can be summed up in one nut shell. Heck theres to many life forms available to even attempt to analyze why some survive while others don't. :)

So, what do you think about the interesting fact that the people who are at the "bottom" of our society are breeding faster than the more "capable" in the world we live in, now?

What would Spencer and Darwin say about that?
