Got this from the inside of a book of matches; I think it's pretty cool, as well as practical. I don't know exactly who to credit for this, so I'll give credit to the Atlas Match Company...
The Candle Lover's Creed
I shall never leave a lit candle unattended.
I shall keep all candles out of the reach of children & pets.
I shall remove flammable materials from vicinity of flame.
I shall always use an appropriate candle holder.
I shall not burn candles in a draft.
I shall trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting.
I shall always remove wick debris from candle.
I shall always place candles on a non-flammable surface.
I shall always use a snuffer to extinguish candles to prevent hot wax from spattering.
I shall not burn any candle entirely; I shall discard it when 1" of wax remains.
I shall heed these words all the days of my life, or until I run out of candles.

And possibly unnecessary if you are doing the first one (?) :D

Not exactly candleburning law :D
Some people burn the candle down almost all the way and dispose of the wax by burying it, putting it somewhere, throwing it in water, or saving to light again later :)

I like the ones that don't leave anything at all, I re-use lots of my holders and they leave no mess. I've always wondered about burying wax and those little metal things. I'm concerned that it pollutes the environment.
But I never leave candles unattended. Good safety tips, Rick. I can't believe you actually read matchbooks, though! ;)

Wait--those are steel? I thought they were aluminum and I also thought that steel didn't rust. :(

Beeswax candles burn cleanly, smokeless and dripless. I like using the little tealight ones. I save the metal cups & reuse them again.

I recycle bits that I can, but generally speaking once it's done it's job, I dispose of the wax.
Some candles can be safely burned completely down, others most certainly cannot - so it just requires a little thought and preparation.

I don't make candles myself. Isn't it something like the more oil you use to make them, the more completely they burn?
I heard that at one of those candle parties.
