a coven?

hi, my name is darkcelticone and i am new to the path. well actually i have been studying for one year and a day as of wednesday, the 8th of may. anyway, what i would like to know.
besides myself, there seems to be only one other witch here in salem, va. at least only one other that lets herself be known. she emailed me and asked could just the two of us be coven or does it have to four corners? i am actually a solitary witch, but it would be nice to form a circle with someone else . i would really appreaciate an answer. blessed be.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking..?

Are you asking if a coven has to have 4 people? If so, no. A coven can have any number of people. Traditionally this meant 3 to 13 people but whatever works for you is fine.

If you're looking for more people in your area try http://www.witchvox.com/ as they have complete listings of people, organizations, stores, and covens all over the world.

Also, you may choose to study with your friend, be in a circle with her, or make up a coven. Usually a circle is more open and includes open rituals without a lot of order or organization. But a coven usually has, like, a priest and priestess, rules, and so on. Again, that isn't necessary, but I just want you to know there are various options.

If you're really interested in this you might want to check out CovenCraft by Amber K, it's an extensive book about.. coven craft :)

hello, and welcome! i hope you find alot of good info here, and make some new friends as well.
as far as your question, there is no reason that you and your friend cannot get together and have a circle without the need for a formal coven. i myself am a solitaire who quite often practices with a number of other witches who just don't want the restrictions of a formal coven, but still like the energy of a group.
in fact, i would suggest that you NOT form a coven until you have formed a magickal bond with those who would practice with you. a coven is a very powerful and intimate thing, much more than just a 'herd' of witches.
also, there is a wonderful online resource that you might want to make use of, and that is Witchvox.com. they can hook you up with other Pagans in your area if you desire, and also list stores and resources in your area.
