Okay, I have had my Daizey for about 10 years and she is pretty playful when no one's looking. She doesn't play with people. Only by herself. She looooves straws!
I just found her doing something I have never seen her do. She was chasing her tail! I know this is normal cat behavior but why would she start doing this now when I have never seen her do it before?
Do you think she's losing it? She's probably 11 or 12 years old. :(

Maybe? Pets do some crazy things sometimes. :)

Well she might've done it out of your view before. Or not. *shrugs* Nothing to worry about :)

No, my cats do stuff like that, too. My mom said Junior was chasing his shadow this morning. :)

heh. When mine chase nothing (as in stare and try to jump at thin air) for hours, then I think they're crazy.

Nope...I don't think she's crazy at all...Mine's about 7 yrs old and she still chases her tail...As well as tackling rugs at the front door. ;) Just a thing they do to wear off extra energy, I guess

My cat is almost two, and she chases her tail sometimes. I was reading somewhere recently, that the only time you really have to worry about such behavior, if it's constant, and if they seem to repetitively groom their tails, after chasing them. Or if they're making meowling noises while chasing them. This can sometimes indicate a type of parasite in that region (tail, anus..etc)...or fleas.

Okay Danus I'm going to check her because she was growling at it!
I just get worried because she's now the oldest cat I've ever had.

Yes, please check her tail. Especially if you have kids and their friends over. I think you know your cat and she is getting older. Let us know. :sunny:

my cat chases and actually tries to pull his tail off .... but it's because his tail was broke about 2 years ago (right where it attaches to body) and even though it healed the nerves get aggravated and twitch..so i get a cat who rolls around the floor growling and pulling at his tail....it's sad to watch, but i give him a pain shot and it feels better.

OOOHh, I don't know if I could give my cat a shot! I checked her good and I don't see anything abnormal. I also haven't seen her do it again. I have seen her growl at her foot before and gnaw on it but it's never been her tail. I'll keep watching her. Thanks!
