First, you have to tell us what deck you have. :D Congrats on your first deck!

I have tavaglione's 'Tarot of the Stars' and it, too, came with a book that is only in Italian. I have tried many people to see if they could translate, but to no avail. I don't consider this a problem since I am familiar with Tarot cards, however, some of the cards are VERY different and would like to know what the exact meanings are.

I had the opposite happen- I bought a deck because I expected it to be in French..and it was only in English!

You could always go by your intuition and looking at the pictures to read. Get into the character on the cards; how are they standing, what are they feeling, what are they doing?? All of these questions will help you place yourself in the card and give a good reading....along with recognizing the suits and knowing their general meanings, the elements that compliment the suits, numberology, the general atmosphere the card exudes, etc. Pictures are a universal language....not dictated by one written language.

If you really feel that you can not read with the deck, then you can either keep it for your "collection" or trade it off or even give it as a gift. Then, you can purchase another deck....one in english. ;)

I agree! If you really like the pcitures and identify with them , you dont need a book to tell you what they are about, use your own inner voice to tell you :)

well i seem to have a talent for seeing only into the far FAR future so i cant find anything to help me in the here and now. like the other day i went by my intuition on the cards and found out that i would have a daughter and she might be a soldier in the army.

the card skipped alot but they worked out but im still going to find out what they mean.

on a lighter note

If it is truely an Italian deck you will have to be careful if you buy some generic Tarot book somewhere and suddenly find out the cards have nothing to do with the book. There is a difference or two between what are called 'continental' and 'English' decks. For example...in the Rider the 5 Pents is usually a couple outside in a raging snowstorm. You may come up with 'being left out in the cold' or something similar. In The Tarot of the Stars (also an Italian deck) the 5 Pents shows a young man and woman sitting in a flower bower and one gets the impression one of them is trying to get the better of the other...but which one? A far cry from raging snowstorms! That is a card more about 'jockeying for position'.

This is why we tell you...use your intuition; rely on no one definition to tell you what the cards mean. Enjoy!
