I am having a heck of a time finding a deck that appeals to me! How have some of you come across the deck you so love?? Do you think I should just a buy a deck and start there, what would be a good deck to start with? Can anyone help with some suggestions?

I visit this place a lot! :) http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/index.html

If I find anything I think I might like at the aeclectic site, I check them out at the local book store. I'm lucky enough to have a new agey book store near me that carries a huge, HUGE selection of tarot & oracle cards. They put all their samples on a board so you can go through them & look at them & touch them.

My newest deck is the Goddess tarot. I fell in love with it when Dagda posted a link to some cool desktop tarot stuff. I checked out the cards at the store & bought them. :)

My other deck, Wheel of Change. I bought after just seeing the pics. I knew they were the ones I wanted. It was just one of those gut feelings. Those one I had to order them special.

My first deck was bought sight unseen. I never got to look at them or touch them. I bought them because I couldn't find anything else I liked at the time. And like you said, I thought I would just buy any deck & jump in. I have to say I've only used them two or three times. They never felt right to me. It was frustrating enough for me to stop trying until I started hanging out here in Tarot forum.

I would say that maybe you just haven't found the deck for you yet. I think I wasted my money on that first deck. But that's just my opinon.

;) Thanks WildChild~ I will most certainly check the site out!! I think you're right about wasting $$ on a deck, I'll just keep looking and waiting! I'm sure that one day soon they'll just pop out at me and say take me home!!!!
Thanks again Merry Partings~ Lisa

The most popular decks are Rider-waite based decks. Most books use these as a basis as well for learning. My favorite deck is The Robin Wood Tarot and it's similar to the Rider-Waite deck as far as imagery goes. :D

Wow! I must have lucked out. I worked in a book store and mine came in one day. I had been interested in buying a deck and learning but hadn't done it yet. When I saw them, I just knew. They are my favorite and I've never seen one that I like quite as much. I use these only on myself and it works well.

I also have a witch's tarot. I like some of the artwork but some of it's strange. They still work well for me though. I use them to read for other people.

Also that is a fabulous website Wildchild posted. I go there alot too.

P.S. to everyone. I signed Jessica Galbreth's message book and she emailed me back saying that she is working on a Tarot Deck. That one I will run to the store to buy.

Hi there! Even though I collect different decks, when it comes to reading, I only use about 3. Everyone has their own favorites--the ones that feel the best to them. Good luck on your quest...the right one is there waiting for you to find it!

If you want to preview a few different decks, you might want to try:

US Games Systems Tarot Section (http://www.usgamesinc.com/categoryFrame_T.cfm?Category_ID=251)

or

Llewellyn (http://www.llewellyn.com/)

You can get free readings there and take a look at the cards as well. Maybe you will find a deck that you had never seen before!

Aeclectic is a wonderful site. i post there often.
i too have many decks, but really only use three. and those are all Thoth-based tarot decks...

>'The Magickal Tarot' (not very pretty, but VERY in depth. a serious working deck)

>'The Haindl Tarot' (interesting 'airy' art. the trumps are fantastic! and the minors are all from different cultures... Egyptian, Arthurian, Hindu and Native American)

>'The Thoth Tarot' (the only one that matters!)

but the main thing is to find a deck that speaks to you. and to do that you need to see alot of decks. so follow Wildchild's advice and check out Aeclectic, they have hundreds you can view, as well as comments and reviews.
and have fun!

Another  for Aeclectic here! Its brill and really gives you a great insight into all the decks out there ~ hope you find your soul deck ;)

Mine was my first ever deck ~ the Secret Tarot ~ its so open to me and the pictures really take me somewhere.

I then got the Mythic Tarot and the Sacred Circle Tarot and although i really like these decks I hardly ever use them now, the Sacred sometimes for meditation and spells and the Mythic to read for others with.. but I dont feel the same connection as with the Secret.

Good luck with your quest! :)

I started off with Rider Waite, though I *really* didn't like the deck and imagery at the time (still don't like it, but have warmed up to it), I kept using it, and now I prefer to use it over my other 2 decks.. (Yes..even over my Spiral...which is my favorite ;)) I guess I just lucked out when I went into the bookstore and got my deck.

But Aeclectic is great! I refer it to everyone.. I love it that much. And happy searching!

I'm not sure that this site is up and running but I think that wicce's tarot website is really good. There are sample pictures from each of the decks which are reviewed and the reviews are really in depth even down to the quality of the card the images are printed on. There is also a huge range of reviews to look at.

I hope it hasn' moved - try www.wicce.com

Yeah, that site still works (wicce). I was looking at that a week ago. Very nice site, indeed. *nods*
