Ok first I think this thread might get more answers in... New Pagans maybe? That's usually the best place for new questions. So I'm gonna move this over there, k?
At the same time, there happens to be a huge thread on witch names already in New Pagans - you can click this link to get to it http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1945

The question of whether or not to take a pagan name depends upon the person and the tradition. Some traditions require that you take a pagan name on initiation, some don't. Some expect two names - one for general use and one for use only amongh coven members. You might here them referred to as "inner" and "outer" names, or "inner circle" and "outer circle" names.
If you are working with a tradition formally, they should be able to give you some guidance. Part of what happens during one's year and a day training prior to initiation is getting to know oneself and one's potential coven-mates.
If you are not working in a formal coven, the link provided above gives some good guidelines.
Blessed Be!
