Yesterday was Red Cross day at my work, and I was chatting with my co-workers and a lot of them can't give blood for various reasons... and some do as often as possible, and some jsut can't do the needle thing... :)
I cannot give blood since I have heart problems...
Just thought it would make an interesting poll.

I probably would, but I do believe the closest Red Cross is in PG (8 hours away from here).... Although the needle thing is pretty scary for me too.

I probably would be too afraid to do it, but I can't anyway since I'm under the required weight.

Unfortuneately, I can't due to medical reasons. However, my other half, Eshallet does. He donates pretty much every time there is a drive at his job.

i've given blood a few times. i missed a couple drives but one of them was because i was on an antibiotic and was disqualified. i feel its a decent thing to do for people who will need it, even though my blood type is the most common.

I don't because i don't like needles. Plus my veins do a dissapearing act when ever they try to stick me. :D

I don't because I'm anemic and the last time i tried giving blood ..they politely asked me not to come back.

I would love to give blood,
im jsut weary about the clenliness of the needles they use.
Are they always sterilized, im sure they are but still a valid thing to physically check

Yup, usually sterilized and one use (ie. they use it on you and no one else).

Yup. I do. As often as possible. In fact, just yesterday at work. :)

I checked other because I have the worst track record with trying to give blood.
Every single time I have the option to give it, I can't for some reason or another: I've been sick, I just had a tattoo a month ago, I'd just gotten back from England, etc. It's a bit frustrating, but I'm hoping that the next time it comes to work, I'll be able to give.

Three more years before they'll let me officially be declared "cancer-free"...

Hubby and I both cannot donate.:( He is diabetic and I am under the weight limit. After the 11th, I had even considered lying about my weight, but then after talking to some people (here at MW) decided there were other things I could do.
I think it is wonderful when people can donate!

And what a wonderful day that will be. May it come very quickly for you. :)

I voted that I have a condition due to the fact that I get an annual tattoo...and no one wants to take my blood if I have a tattoo that is less than a year old...even though I have O+

Well I have had two tattoos in the past year so I can't give blood. And I am frequently anaemic so that stops me too.

People look at me and say "have you had anything pierced in the last year?", and it's a bit irritating as I wouldn't be there if I had recently been needled...
but yes, I give blood whenever I can, although last time I went they couldn't find a single vein...(found a nice artery though which they elected not to use).

I used to until they made such a horrible mistake that I decided that I wouldn’t do it anymore unless it was for a family member.
Selfish I know, but…

I did give blood alot. They loved my O- self. Would call me every 6 weeks to the day. "Okay, come back please." But the last time I went, someone hurt me very badly while drawing my blood and mocked me in front of the people around. It was bad enough that I screamed and I have a high tolerance for pain. It hurt me enough that whenever I got shots or gave blood samples, I came close to passing out because of the fear. I vowed never to go back. And I never will.

I used to, but now that I'm getting new tats or piercings three or four times a year I don't anymore.

i will as soon as i get the chance... there is a blood drive i plan on going to next month... i need to find out what my blood type is, because my mom needs surgery, and needs 3 donors, just in case... she's O+, my dad is A+, so i could be either one... so next month i'm donating to the red cross, and they'll tell me my blood type, and then i'll keep donating whenever i get the chance...

I would but can't. In the UK they won't let you donate blood if you're gay. I'm in a monogomous relationship and practice safe sex but it doesn't make any difference. :(

I don't weigh enough to give blood. My younger sister, however, weighs just enough. She still needs parental permission though.

Hell no. I don't let needles get anywhere near me. It's hard enough just watching the cat get shots.
