BIG YAY! I've decided to open my own design business!!!!

I love my careeer, but have been thinking of different ways I can incorporate my love of other things into becoming a lucrative venture.

I got called into jury duty one day and met this amazing woman, and we immediately hit it off. She's a realtor, and has her own business with her husband. They sell primarily in the Glendale, Pasadena and Eagle Rock areas, which is very close to where we live in Burbank.

After the day, I was chatting with my husband on how many who work in the entertainment industry (as we do) have branched out and obtained their real estate license. Also the fact that it would require too much dedication/effort/time to devote along with my full time position and housewife stuff.

Husband had a brilliant idea... As I'm addicted to all things HGTV, and that I have a great eye for design (I completely redecorated our house - bringing it from 'bachelor' to 'home'), why not start a design-to-sell business? IT'S PERFECT!

I will take homes that have been on the market and not selling and go in and work my magic to make them sellable :) My business will be called Sea Siren Designs, and I already have my logo - and art deco style mermaid. I'll have to post when I'm finished tweaking it.

We met my new real estate friend and her husband for dinner to run the idea by them. Is it a good one? Is there a need? Is the market over-saturated? They loved it... Now that we're back from vacation, we're going to reconvene with them and go over my business plan.

They've agreed to take me to a few listings to get a start, so I'm hoping to have some positive updates on my new business venture, hopefully the end of this month!

Wish me luck :)

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the positive comments and energy. I'm really excited to get started, I just hope I can juggle all the things I will be facing.

I'll definitely get pictures as I'll need to start a portfolio of my work. I beat myself for not taking before and after shots of our home, it would be a perfect example of my talent, although our home would need some tweaking if we were going to have an open house...

My current project is redecorating our guest room/study. Decided on a bronze iron headboard for the bed we have rather than replacing with the daybed I would have preferred. New bookcases to accommodate our books and GORGEOUS new huge crystal ball I just purchased in Salem. Will be painting the walls in the kitchen French vanilla...

I love working in music, but I can't wait to start this! And, my future dream is opening my wine and cheese gourmet shop :)

Looks like I'm going to be a very busy Witch :hahugh:

Good luck! I love the graphic in your signature. It reminds me of Yemanja, who I have a particular affinity toward.

Thanks, everyone! Kir Royale's all around ladies...

I'm excited, I'm daydreaming, I'm losing focus at work. I love what I do, but am reaching a plateau where it seems I'm getting more and more work daily, but my wallet isn't getting fatter. I make a great salary, but want more from life. I'm also feeling poopy because my department has an intern, and frankly, I don't have time to train someone who will only be around a couple months. My boss (lovely, gets a 'pet' and leaves town without giving her anything to do) insists on a summer intern, but I end up having to babysit AND get my workload and deadlines done.

This is why I'm really feeling my business is going to be a success. If I start getting more calls and requests that I can handle on an off-hour basis, I may consider giving up my career in music. We'll see.

In the meantime!!! I've secured a web domain and designed my business cards!!! I'll share, but I'm a little wary about posting private information online/here as my name, addy and phone are on the card. I just photochopped them out. By all means, once I'm up and running, if anyone wants to contact me, send a PM.

Whatcha think?? I think I need to re-scan the seahorses...

Thanks everyone. I'm currently (see 'finally') redecorating our guestroom/study and am making it Witch-Lite, so I can still have some of my things out, but not too obvious. I can remove a few things when our son comes to visit...

I took before shots, when it's finished, I'll post after so you all can see! We used a Pottery Barn gift card we got as a wedding gift and purchased a beautiful quilt, I can't wait to put it all together.

Also, my new real estate friends are coming for dinner Saturday and after we pour cocktails, I'm going to take them around the house to show them what I would do if we were having an open house. Our house is comfortable and decorated for us, but would tweak some things for such an event. Will be a good run though to get her interested in my taste and business plan.

I love scheming!
