View Full Version : Water - how does it feel?

After reading the threats about the "moments" we all enjoy, I've decided to be more specific. What does water mean to you, and how does it make you feel?
I am discovering my connection to water after realising that it is more related to myself than I ever imagined. Seeing water, hearing water, feeling water... all of that brings a connection to me, wich I am discovering at each day it passes, and for now, I can't define in words. I just love to close my eyes and hear the water flow throught a park lake or a small river. And the ocean, so wonderfull, powerfull... and yet so calm and relaxing at the same time..
Oh well, just decided to share some of my recent thoughts. I wonder what water brings to your soul... :)

water makes me feel relaxed, like i belong. although i can't swim, i love being in water, standing, sitting, floating, whatever. its all so soothing, be it the ocean, a creek, a swimming pool, even a bath.

Water as one of the elements to be worked with feels wispy and fragile and mental and psychic...it is the soft voice that whispers in my ear with all those things known and suspected and totally out of the blue. It is the gossamer touch of an ethereal emotional being I may think I see from the corner of my eye...and then only for a brief second.
On the physical plane I am terrified of water-- can't even stand it in my face in the shower. Won't go in it, near it, or on it.

Water means many things to me. Mostly, water brings me more to introspection and emotional delving than anything. I meditate in the shower, I get moody in rainstorms (with the mood vascillating between joy and sorrow, depending on season and type of rainfall), and when I stand near the ocean I feel a depth of sadness and loss and lack of control that I can't quite explain. Rain and the ocean figure as fascinating characters in my play, too. The friend who wrote it for me also has a deeply emotional connection to water.
It also represents health to me. The more water I drink, the more properly my body works, especially in my dry climate. It's amazing the number of ailments that can be reduced by making sure one drinks enough water.
Which brings me to a third meaning. I grew up in a very dry climate, and I live there again, now. Water is a dwindling resource out here, and many people aren't aware of the degree to which this is true. The more people that move here, the greater the danger. So for me, water is one of the most precious resources on earth, and is something to be taken care of, not wasted, and acknowledged for its great importance in making this planet a place where life can exist in the abundance it does. I'm thankful for water and want to protect its value.
Of course, the water doesn't care. It just does what water does. But it's a huge percentage of my planet, my body, and my emotional makeup, so I care about it. ;)

I've been focusing on thirst lately.
It's been hot, and relatively dry.
It is very clear how things are responding to water.
How quickly the raindrops are absorbed or evaporate from surfaces. How the insects gather in the shade of anything, to take advantage of the moisture there.
My own thirst. The thrill I get when I have the opportunity to slake anothers thirst.
How water calls things to itself, through need.
I love to visit waterfalls. To sit in the rush, to swim in the pools beneath them, to admire the plants and critters that call them home.
Last week, hubby and I watched a crayfish climb the moss that grew on the rocks of a waterfall. It pulled itself straight up, pincer by pincer. The plants grow in a tremendous rush of water. I don't know how they hang on.
Salamanders creep in the pools and crevices in the rocks.
I love fresh water. Not a big ocean person. But give me a creek, pond or puddle and I am occupied for hours.

You're not alone on that, hehe. I think the fact I live by the ocean maked me so used to it that I am more fascinated my the small sources of water.
Last year, while doing an Archaeology work, me and my group, decided to follow a creek up the mountain untill we reached it's source. After hours of climbing over rocks and thick trees, what we saw on the top of the mountain was astonishing: small ponds of water filled with white flowers and green grass. The creek itself appeared from beneath the grass from many spots forming a nice pond and creek that flowed to the bottom of the mountain. To complete this cenario, wild horses where drinking from the water. But since images tell much more than words, I decided to share with you guys what I saw. I present you the creek of "Poço Azul" ("Blue Pond" or "Blue Well") located in Afife - Portugal.
Hope you like it, hehe. The third picture is barely noticeable, but it is the water coming out of the earth, giving form to the creek :)
Sorry for the small size, but the original quality is to heavy to post on a forum. But you can see the original format here on my blog - http://kopros.blogspot.com (Here)
Peace!

I grew up near a beautiful lake, I was in the water or on the water as much as I could be. My connection to water is centering, there's just something about it that makes me feel calm, strong and, well, centered.
Sometimes I sit near the little lake by my house. I just sit and listen and let the sound of the water wash over me. It's a form of cleansing for me, I guess.

Lately I have felt very connected with water. I don't know why but I have been missing my former home in the pacific northwest of the US. It is always wet there. Some of the most beautiful fog you have ever seen in your life and green bursting from everywhere. Its often called the Ireland of the US. I remember when I was little, going to go see waterfalls and driving up the mountains and seeing water cascading down the moutainside. I am going to go back one day soon I know. I have to. I live in north Texas now and it is WAY too dry for me here. We will see.

There cannot be a rainstorm/thunderstorm here without me walking/dancing/playing in it.

Water affects me in all sorts of ways. It can be very calming to watch and listen to rivers flowing, waves crashing and rain falling. But it's also so powerful at times... waterfalls, strong currents and storms.
I wish I could come up with as beautiful an answer as some of you have... :)
Your answer is as beautiful as any other. Thank you for sharing your toughts ;)

Water is a part of me in some kind (except for those 80%). I grew up and have always lived on islands close to the sea. The ocean is undescribably important as it is one of those things that make me feel at home, just looking at in calms me. However specifically the ocean or sea is important, a lake does not give me the same reaction at a similar level. When in water I feel natural, I have always been at home in water. When I was younger everyone said that I was like a fish in the water.
In order to get to the point, The sea is fantastic and I could not live apart from it. It feels.. wet! =)

Ah, cool and wet and floating in the hot summer evening. Swimming free and turning somersaults and feeling like a dolphin. Watching the great nieces laugh, play and splash.
Drinking the freshly filtered, not out of a bottle, ice cold. I can feel the cold rush down to my toes.
I am a Cancer. Swimming naked under a full moon charges me up. I am refreshed.
