I'm just sitting up at night, bored and thinking about magnets for some reason ;) Do any of you use them in your magic or rituals? If so, how?

I've used lode stones, which supposedly have magnetic properties. I would use them in magick which is meant to draw things to you, in addition to other symbols of the goal you are trying to acheive.
Such as adding a lodestone to a prosperity charm, with other symbols of prosperity. It might increase the potency.

Magnets also have applications for health & healing... even mainstream medicine is beginning to use them... makes sense, since blood contains iron...

Yes! Thanks to Rootwork13, who sent me some lodestones as a gift. I keep one in a little cauldron with a lid. To that I add a few coins, prosperity herbs and other things that symbolize prosperity and abundance to me. The prescribed formula is to do this once a week at the same time, but I only end up doing it at the full or new moons - I place the lodestone in my chalice for a little while with some water, then make a ritual out of drinking the water and thanking the stone for all of the blessings it has helped bring into my life. I then dry it, replace it it the cauldron and "feed" it with iron filings or magnetic sand.
I have also begun adding cash and checks that I receive, which I place in the cauldron until I'm ready to spend or deposit them. I also keep one in my household money jar and coin purse, in which I keep all of the money I carry.
Rootwork13's thread in Pagan Public Marketplace is called Thor's Hammer, I believe - and if you can't reach her, Azure Green carries both the lodestones and magnetic sand.
There is also a working that you can do to draw sickness out of someone's body with one of these stones, but supposedly only one person has ever been very successful with it.
Recipe for magnet oil soon to come!

I just watched "The Critical Eye" on one of the Discovery channels the other day, and they had a whole hour on alternative medicines.
Regarding magnets, they reminded us that the iron in our blood is not ferrous, therefore it does not respond to magnets in any way. That, and a thin sheet of paper or fabric totally blocks all of the magnetic pull of the very thin therapeutic magnets. Me? I'm thinking that maybe a magnet from a large speaker (the size of a hockey puck) might be better than those very thin magnets they sell. But it's more a magnetic alignment of your body that it would affect, not your blood. I guess you could walk around your house with one balanced on your head! LOL
Chakras and reiki they had a little trouble with though. Personally I think it's similar to the magnetic theory - realigning the body properly (whether you call it aura or whatever)...
Lodestone and other stones and items used in charms and rituals are more likely have a sympathetic magical effect... eg: you want infuse yourself with the properties of those items.
Well, that's my take on it anyway, Mad Moya

We haven't used them for anything but mundane purposes, but we do have several hard drive magnets around here. They are more along the lines of what you'd be thinking Moya - though they aren't hockey puck sized and in some cases are quite thin, they're very, very strong.

I have a magnet that was given to me by a friend who is non pagan, as far as I know. (We dont discuss spirituality much.) He claimed this magnet was mined from the earth rather than manufactured. He also claimed that he really didnt want it around him, because it has a history of strong power other than magnetic. He was quite emphatic about this aspect of it!! Indeed, it is the most powerful magnet I have ever seen. (It looks about the size of a browny.) As soon as I got it, I consecrated it for the Goddess's use, and it hasnt brought me the bad luck claimed by its previous owners. I use it when I feel a need to add exta power to my spellwork, like a turbo booster on a car, so to speak. So far...with excellent results.
Blessings!

Two sources you might want to check out:
1: the book "The Body Electric: Electromagnetism and the Foundation of Life" by Gary Selden. I've seen this book, but haven't picked it up yet. Looks interesting.
2: the website www.garynull.com. Dr. Null wrote a book about healing with magnets. Check out the library, and search for "magnets". There are several articles.

Hmm. INteresting.
*bump*
Magnets could be a very important part of Magic since they can be used to direct energy flow.
