I just wanted to post this because I found that almost nobody in the US knows that there is a memorial in Washington DC for Police officers who have died in the line of duty. And even less people know that this week is National Police Week and May 15th is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Quote from http://www.nlemof.org (the website for the memorial)
"2001: ONE OF THE DEADLIEST YEARS ON RECORD"
"In addition to the 70 officers who died on September 11 in New York City, Richard Guadagno, a law enforcement officer with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, died trying to retake the plane from terrorists when it crashed in a field in Pennsylvania later that same morning. Of the other officers who died last year, 68 were shot to death; 41 died in automobile accidents; 24 were struck by automobiles while outside of their own vehicles; eight died in motorcycle accidents; five were killed in aircraft accidents; four succumbed to job-related illnesses; two died in boating accidents; two were beaten to death; one died in a fall; one was crushed to death by a bale of hay; and one officer drowned."
I've been to the memorial. I've also been to the memorial we have here in our county for the 6 people who have died from our county. I wish more people knew about it.
