I love star gazing, but over here in England is so light polluted its not that good over here...

Here's some new things to try..
Sky Divination

Star Gazing

1) Go outside at night when the sky is clear. Ask a question. If the stars seem to glow brighter, or if a shooting star races across the sky, the answer is yes. If nothing seems to occur after fifteen minutes, or if clouds blot out the stars, the response in no.

2) Before going to bed, walk outside, look up at the sky and say the following: "Stars, stars, show me the future." It will appear in a dream that night.

3) Wishing on a star is a popular practice. Outside, look at at one particular star for several minutes. State your hoped-for future. Close your eyes for three seconds. If, upon opening your eyes, they immediately fix on the same star, your future is as you wished. If you can't find it at once, your future will be different.

The Moon

On the new moon (that is, when the moon first appears in the sky as a thin crescent), go outside and point a dull-bladed knife (preferably silver) at the moon. Say the following words:

New moon, true morrow, be true now to me
that I ere the morrow my true love may see.

Place the knife beneath your pillow. Speak to no one as you prepare for bed. Remember your dreams.

Lightning

Go outside on a night that will probably bring a storm. Stand facing in any direction and wait for the first flash. If it appears to the left, it's a sign of trouble and heartaches. If, however, it appears on the right, this portends a happy, prosperous future. If it's directly overhead, a mixture of both. (This is also a sign that it might be best to take cover.) If you've asked a specific question it's answered in the same manner: to the left, no; to the right, yes. If it appears directly overhead, no answer can be given at this time.

Cool :D I was expecting making pictures out of clouds--which can also be helpful ;)

Wow, I've wished on stars since I was little, but this is a lot more interesting!

I've done this so many times....Can never find the same star twice. (Maybe I'm just unlucky)

There's a beautiful sliver of a crescent tonight, and you can see the whole moon in the darkness. Venus is glittering so brightly! I saw all of this when I went to the store earlier, and didn't have my computer with me so I could look up what kind of divination I could do with this....:dis:

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if it is moved please let me know. This is for my sister.

A few weeks ago as my sister was driving down to visit me (it's a 4 hour drive and her husband was driving) she was looking out the window staring at the sky, it was night, but she could see the clouds moving. As she stared one cloud formed the image of a skull, it startled her, but she said it stayed for about 5 minutes never changing. Then last week she was driving home from picking her son up from work and looking in the sky saw the cresent moon with a star very near the top point. They thought it was beautiful so stopped to take a longer look. When they got out of the car to look she said it was as if the moon had disappeared but the star remained in place...they waited for about 10 minutes to see if it might be cloud coverage or something but the moon never came back into sight. She thought it might be an eclipse *shrugs* Can someone help figure out if there is any meaning to these things and what that meaning is??????

Brightest Blessings,
Nissala

I'm lucky to live in a back-water area, where the sky is clear and bright, except on rainy nights. I do wish on the first star I see (star light, star bright) but I've been making the same wish for over a year now. Maybe it's just positive reinforcement or something, but it's slowly coming true!

:) I'm going to try merging this with the Sky Divination thread, have not done that before so we'll see if it works.....

Sounds like your sister is definitely getting a message, and she's probably the best one to interpret it based on what's going on in her life right now.

:) I've had wishes made on stars come true, too.....

I might almost consider that image an omen, rather than just a form of sky divination, but that's just me.

I haven't played wish on a star for awhile, but I can remember back to a night where I had been trying forever to get a guy to date me that I liked, and he finally asked me out. That night there were shooting stars all over the place - even though there wasn't a well know meteor shower listed anywhere. I took it as a good omen, but the relationship had a crushing ending a year later, to the day.

Sometimes what looks like a good omen is a warning, and what looks like a bad one is not - it takes careful interpretation.

Hi Azure! What exactly do you do to combine dream and sky divinatination? The mixture of the two sound interesting.

From the original post:

" Before going to bed, walk outside, look up at the sky and say the following: "Stars, stars, show me the future." It will appear in a dream that night. "

This is a really traditional form of British divination - perform a ritual act in expectation of a prophetic dream of some sort. Like pining bay leaves to your pillow to dream of a future spouse on May Eve.

Azure, that's a good point, the image could very well also be an omen.

Seems like you could also use the sky/dream divination to inspire specific dreams if you focused your intent on what you need to know.

Neat idea! I never thought of having the stars help you channel dreams and prophetic visions.

Azure

Seems to me really like a variation on lucid dreaming, but instead of controlling your dream, you use it in conjunction with the ritual to focus your psychic abilities. I'm going to really have to experiment with this now. . .

That sounds really interesting, Azure! Will have to try it - when it's clear enough to see the stars.

I'll defintely have to try it too, Azure. This thread has come at the perfect time. Currently, I have been studying astronomy a lot, so my interest in the planets and stars has intensified recently.

I saw the most amazing vision in the sky while driving this weekend. There was this long skinny cloud that looked like a lightning bolt and had a silver lining. One of the wispy clouds moved over to it....and for a few minutes it looked like the Goddess holding a staff.....

It bore an amazing resemblance to a talisman that someone made for me, where a similar image spontaneously appeared as they were working on it.

Wow that sounds very powerful! Have you gave anymore thought as to the symbolism behind the lightning bolt?

To me it is a very powerful 'open your eyes' sign, also a power sign to use to protect yourself and others (it was weapon of Zeus) so maybe your goddess is speaking to you of similar things.

I was actually more focused on the incredible similarities between this image and the talisman :)

I associate the lightning bolt with Thor, of course;) The feeling that I got from the vision was one of comfort - I feel that Freyja is reminding me that I am strong and that she continues to provide that strength. Very appropriate for some things that are going on in my life right now.

Good to see you! (((((Silver Venus)))))

Great to see ya too Freyja :)

Thor, ofcourse  I feel like the bigger my belly gets the more I forget!
Great you have received this message from Freyja, the talisman and vision must be very powerful for you.

I received this in an e-mail and it wasn't clear as to who wrote it. I think the author is Scott Cunningham.

When the Storm is Over

When the rain and lightning have stopped, but you are not sure if the storm is completely passed, look to the sky if it is daylight. If you see birds, it is an excellent sign. However for certainty, watch the birds in flight, then chant aloud as you do:

'Birds of the air,
Fly without care.
Will it rain here?
Will it rain there?'

When they fly off, stop chanting and look closely to the direction in
which they leave; if it is the East, the storm is passed. If South, a
fiercer storm may be headed your way. To the West, the rain will
continue soon, but to the North it will be clear for the rest of the
day. Or in rhyming form:

'To the East, 'twill be clear,
To the South, storm you'll hear,
To the West, never end,
To the North, Sun descend.'
