My first question would be what are you trying to achieve with the poppet? What's next would depends a lot on what you want the outcome of the spell to be.

Well, I want to bring more love in my life and I am trying to use it for faster healing of my broken leg.

Try one of these maybe:

Poppet Magick (http://www.paganvillages.com/users/luigee/)

Poppet Magick (http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Canopy/1956/poppet-magick.html)

First, you use a poppet for one purpose and one only.

Second, if you can't visualize very well as you mention in the other thread you probably don't want to be doing poppet magic right away, as it's very strong stuff that could easily go wrong.

Third, when you are able to do this sort of thing, a poppet probably isn't the best way to get love in your life. You might use it to heal yourself tho by using correspondences you associate with healing and using the poppet to represent yourself fully healed. Again, if you haven't got your techniques like visualization down quite well you might not want to do this yet.

Fourth, mind this rule on the second link LunarMist listed

"Poppet magick is a very powerful form of magick. For this reason, it's important to use it with care. Never make a poppet to represent another person without their permission. This is the psychic equivalent of rape."

Wow, Myst, that last quote gives me goosebumps and it's absolutely correct. I'd have to add that doing love magick with or without a poppet focusing on a specific person is much the same.

I found several good spells to bring love into your life in Scott Cunningham's Spell Crafts. But even with these one must be careful. My cousin requested that I make her a love bottle, but apparently SHE had a specific person in mind, and she got who she wanted but not the outcome she'd hoped for. Learned my lesson with that one:(

I have used a poppet in an extreme situation for a binding. This is also very powerful magick and must be used with extreme care. Instead of burying the poppet, I used the freezer so that I could set the person free when they were no longer a danger to me or others. There is good information on this practice, including cautions, in Starhawk's The Spiral Dance.

... as for what to do with it after you've used it that depends on what your purpose was when making it. There is always burying, but you sometimes it might be efficient to send it/mail it to the person in mind (particulary if you are making on for protection from a specific person), some poppets you could just keep and use over and over, for example those you make for blessings of different kinds... :)

:) Yes, there are positive uses for poppets. I believe that I saw some ideas for using them for healing in some of Silver RavenWolf's books. I recall that she relates a story of a woman who was very new to magick and in anger, and not being really serious, made a poppet directed at her abusive husband and he ended up being injured. The story is funny, but also points out how powerful this kind of magick is.

I like the idea of sending it to the person who you have made it for because that confirms that you have their permission.

Oh yes this type of magick can be very very powerful (as can, I suppose, all magick). Throughout history poppets have been made (now my knowledge of this type of history is rather limited but I know a little of its swedish history). The reason for making it wasn't always for fun, and I guess it was rarely made with permission. In Sweden we had/have a thing called bjära or puke (it also goes by some other names depending on where in Sweden it was used) and it is said that it most oftenly was made for harmful reasons. The process of making it includes binding and you make it so that you will own and rule over it, and thereafter you send it out and it will run your errands, like stealing milk or cows or things like that, but also to harm someone who didn't treat you well. I know that there are people who uses this type of magick today, but not to steal milk or cows :)... I've heard of a man who made this type of poppet, a bjära, with a few alterations for a female friend who was being abused by her husband. They sent the poppet to her husband and after he got it his luck ran out and things turned out better for her after that, she left the man and is probably doing a lot better now than she was before.

Now I don't encourage anyone to make this kind of poppet (bjära), remember that what you send out will come back to you... . However poppet magick is very effective, and used correctly and for good reasons it can be very helpful.

Blessings

:) Wow! Thanks for sharing that, I love to hear information about other traditions and cultures! The binding that I did was very effective. Although the person was still within view, they never directly crossed my path again and no harm was caused to them to my knowledge.

Thank you everyone! This has been a lot of help. I have decided not to do a poppet spell. I didn't realize it had such intense power. Thanks for the warning.
