I read a story last night by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in which the characters would sleep with an ancient magickal artifact next to their heads in anticipation of dreaming of the history of the item. I've heard that concept before that story too, of sleeping with, for example, a book with the intent that your mind would absorb something from it in your sleep. I've never tried it as it seemed a bit farfetched, but then a lot we discuss here is. So, have any of you tried that and had success? Is there possibly anything to that?

My computer is less than 12inches from my bed and I sleep here every night.. As far as I know I haven't absorbed anything from it.

I know people will do it with magickal items, stones, tarot/oracle cards, runes, symbols, herbs etc. but never with a book.

Operative phrase = controlled dreaming
You would probably have to master that to some extent before you could make this work.

As Garm stated if you can master controlled dreams then you may have success with it.
I have trained my mind to find lost items in my dreams when I sleep by concentrating on the object that is lost or misplaced before I go to sleep.
Another thing I do is a form of meditation before sleep that makes me more open to things I may have over looked during the day that were important.
