View Full Version : Guess what happened to me yesterday....

Saturday, I decided to load up the kids and drive out to my moms house about 50 miles away. I got there, visited, had a pretty good time, and then proceeded to head home. Two of my children (Justice and Jessica) wanted to spend the night with grandma, so it was only me and my other daughter (Jasmine). Anyways, we got about a half block down the dirt road when I switched on my headlights. About two minutes after that, smoke started to fill the front window, coming out of the vents in front. The next thing I knew there were flames coming out of the left vent next to the steering wheel and my hand. I pulled into a dirt driveway and tried to put them out. My daughter was in the back seat terrified so she got out. I jumped out and grabbed my purse. By this time smoke has already filled the car. I took off my sweater and tried putting the flames out. I thought they were out when hot flames were now coming from under neath the dash. I grabbed a few more things out of the car and as I turned back the entire inside of the car was up in flames. Huge clouds of black smoke everywhere:(
We ran up the road, we tried to get away from the car because I knew it was gonna blow. We got to a neighbors house and someone had already called the fire department. My daughter is crying hysterically, and tears are welling up in my eyes. I had pictures in the car, antique dolls my mom had given me, and tons of candle and craft stuff. It all burned up. The fire department got there and a half hour later the fire was out. I guess the shock didn't really set in until I walked back to the car and saw nothing but the charred remains. Nothing at all remained except the frame. So, my husband finally arrived, my mother took the kids for the night, and what was left of the car was towed away.
OH, Guess what survived the fire, in the front of the car, on the floor, was my pentagram still on it's chain that I had hung on the rear view mirror.

:( Wow ~ I am so sorry that you had to go through such a terrifying experience but am really glad that you had the presence of mind to just take your kids and get OUT of the car. Years ago, a friend of mine had something similar happen and tried to put the flames out on the dash - in seconds the entire car, and my friend, were engulfed. He was burned severely and lived for two days before crossing over.

The fact that your pentagram is still there, unscathed, gives me goosebumps. What an amazing symbol of how totally and perfectly you are protected.

I know! I couldn't believe that it was just lying there, still on the chain amongst ashes and broken and melted glass. I thank the Gods and Goddesses for that. I know They were there.
Amazing!:o

:) Jade and I have discussed this, and have agreed that this is too beautiful a story to be posted only in Just Silly, so I'm moving it to Just Talk so that the rest of the board will be sure to have an opportunity to share it.

Thank You all SO much!:)
About the insurance question, I had only liability on the car, so I don't think it will cover much. I will find out tomorrow.

How terrifying! I am going to add in my happiness that you and your daughter are ok. What a wondereful sign that the Goddess was with you. I don't think I would let that pentacle out of my sight from now on.

((HUGS)) to you and your daughter.

Many of us spend our whole lives with doubts as to if we are on the right path you got a blatant sign that you are. I would definitly consider that particular necklace blessed. With the pictures ask around in your family for pics you may be surprised at what you get. The dolls there is no replacement for but maybe you could gather some for when you have grandchildren so that a new set could be passed on. When my Dad died he gave some quilts that belonged to me to his Aunt. They were all I had left of my Greatgrandmother then I realized I have something that she left me that no one can give away my memories of her and the things she taught me. Keep those things alive and the loss of the dolls over time will mean less because you will see the things that she taught you in your own children if you teach them and just as the dolls would have been a visual reminder so will your children. :)

Congratulations on the whole survival thing. ::smiles:: Really. I'm sorry that so many things were destroyed.. but ah. The fallen blossom, the fish plucked from the river by father and son.. in the midst of destruction we are surrounded by beauty. ::hugs:: I'm glad that you lived and apparently learned something from it.

If you don't mind my asking- and I don't mean to offend- I'm just sort of wanting to know what was running through your head. The smell, thought, emotion.. the first thing in your head when you saw the fire, what your skin did when you noted the pentacle still there...

If you'd rather not get into it I'll understand. ::hugs:: Congrats, again.

The first thing that ran through my head? Probably was to try and put the fire out (after getting my daughter out of the car).
When I tried doing that and failed...The flames spread quickly so I grabbed my purse and got the heck away from the car. I couldn't believe how fast the fire spread....

Don't worry, you can ask me anything...I am very open to all the people here:)

Jade, I just thought to ask. . . what kind of car was it? Were there possibly any active recalls for it?

That sort of defect in a car is pretty unusual, and might be worth following up with some research to find out if there's some factory liability involved. **Soft smile** Hopefully there is, at least enough for you to be able to buy a new car.

Sowelu

It was a 76' Ford LTD.:)

flar7
May 28th, 2002, 03:33 AM
Jade, we once had a 76 Ford Granada that caught on fire and burned
to the ground. Ours was a carbuerator fire, we tried to put it out
but it had a continueous gas supply. We were able to empty the
car because of it starting under the hood, we got out the important stuff. My friend Cliff had a 76 LTD that had an under the
dash fire while driving down a dirt road(we were going swimming)
there were 5 guys in the car, so we ripped the dash out and got the
fire out, but car was ruined.

Am so glad to hear that you and child got out with out harm! Know
that you are blessed and watched over. Things like that make you
think. We just had a recent bridge tragedy here in Oklahoma, lot
of people shocked. I hope that you have no problems replacing
the car, and that you get an even better one! Fingers crossed!

Sowelu
