I've lurked around the "getting back in shape 2007" thread for quite a while- while I was sitting in the hospital with my kiddo- I was thinking a class might be fun-
I do a lot of pilates and things like that and have TONS of tips and things.
didn't know if anyone else would be interested.
feedback?

Since I started the "getting back in shape 2007" thread I always thought the idea of a class such as you described would be interesting. Especially since we have had a yoga class already. That worked well imo and I am sure a class like you were describing would to. But I was just curious what all would be included in your class?
Also just a note make sure you have your disclaimers mentioned in your class as well. i know it may sound silly but it is not when it comes to covering your butt.

I think that would be a great idea for a class. If there is anyway I can help let me know. :)

I haven't come up with a large amount of things to teach- I love pilates, and have several good " diets that don't feel like a diet" recipies. My biggest thing is motivation. What I do with myself now is- if i exercise and eat right for 2 days- i get to tan on day 3, etc etc. then at my 1/2 way mark- i get a day at the spa. when i've met my goal- i get a shopping spree for new clothes. There are several other exercises floating around in my head as well. different ways to make a simple walk around the block more effective than just walking around the block. I have things to do at home, while watching tv- things you wouldn't think of....
as for a disclaimer- hadn't thought of that- will have to write one

Here's one of the websites that I use for motivation/resources.

Has some good movitation articles on it. They also have a great fitness resource page and good supportive community.

*i am not a doctor or dietician- do not substitute this for medical advise.... * Yep and also that you or MW is not responsible for any accidents that occur when your class is taken and or if you have medical issues please talk to your doctor before undergoing any new diet or exercise program. Or something like that.
look forward to the class :)

You could also have a weekly weigh in.if people don't want to say how much they weigh, they could just say how much they have lost.
Maybe a thread for each person,so that other people can go to that persons thread to support and encourage them.

Well that would be something hard to do if a person has no scale or cannot afford one. So what can be done in a situation like that?

That's a point.
I don't have scales and i get weighed in my local chemists for 30p..i guess thats about 50 cents,

I would be happy to help out as well... I have almost lost 20 pounds myself, so I have had personal experience as far as weight loss goes.

Here's a disclaimer for you! "I'm not a doctor or a dietitian. But I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night." Hee.
After half a year of military training I gained 23 pounds in muscle. Afterwards, I dwindled to my previous weight, and have been trying all year to get it back. I guess my obsessive focus on cardio doesn't help. Anyway, I do know a thing or two about eating healthy, exercise, and motivation. I don't think I'm reliable enough or knowledgeable to help lead a class, but I have a few obese friends back home who are counting on me to help them out when I get back. I'll see how it goes, and I'd be happy to share the results as I learn about weight loss. Anyway... yeah. So there. Nyah.

I would love to be a part of or even start a class of this nature. I like the idea of each person having their own thread with their goals and progress. I also feel it is incredibly important to journal your food in order to be successful. Perhaps even having weekly or monthly goals for the collective. ie: up your veggies for one goal period, add a walk for another, increase water intake, cut out coffee or some other vice food, etc. This way everyone, while trying to meet their own personal goals, has one they are working with together.
I'd love to offer my help to PandoraHealer to get something like this moving. I've never led a class, but I have lost 130lbs in the past and have maintained the majority of that loss.

This thread was created August 4th 2007. Are people still interested in a weight loss COT? I would have it a bit different eg, healthy living as weight loss isn't always a good thing. If Pandora isn't able to hold this COT, I will see if I have permissions to start teaching and type some lessons up.
I'd be happy to do 'segments' - if you have something you feel is relavent but not enough for a COT of its own. I would love to look it over and include it - full credit will be given to original authors.
The main thing of the class if I was to run such a class (still have to see if there is interest and if I'll have the time needed to come up with resources whilst helpin my monster out with her home) would be somewhere for forum members who are unhappy with bodyweight/shape/energy/health could read up and arm themselves with the facts that would help make subtle life changes that offered dramitic results.
Class members would be encouraged to post pictures, measurements taken via tape measure and scales if possible. I of course, am not a doctor - so I can't guarentee results. Me and Mysticiwicks can't take any responsibility for any bad stuff yadda yadda... consult your own doctor before undertaking a big change in diet and lifestyle. Members would be expected to adopt the lessons to fit their own lives as best as they can (I understand if you don't buy the groceries its not possible to get healthier foods into your diet - but we'll cover that in depth in lessons). Members would be encouraged to be honest about their ups and downs, and supportive of one another.
Interested? Let me know. I will PM Pandora as this is her baby unless she wishes to hand over the reigns.

Wow I'd be interested in this too! I've been one to lose weight but have been having trouble finding the motivation. A group setting, even if it's online, is always better than none at all. :) And I'd also love just a healthy living sort of class - that alone will help.

I have Pandora's blessing on carrying on her good work :)
I'll wait till the end of the week to see interest then PM flaming about starting up a COT and get typing the first few lessons. As monster's 'house boy' I can only do work when I'm not chained to the bedposts.
