I hear that Shekhinah Mountainwater may soon be leaving us.

My prayers to her safe and comfortable passage and to her family and loved ones she leaves behind.

She will certainly be missed.

I never heard this and I am so sorry that this is occurring. She was a person I deeply respected and admired.

I will light a candle and send energy to her family and friends. :hugz:

Thank you Evielee for bring this to our attention! :hugz:

What's going on? The last message I read from her said she'd had good news, but that was some time ago. I'm fighting the stupid slow 'net tonight trying to figure out what you mean.

August 5th, 2007, 10:14 PM
It was in the Moonspells yahoo group and that she has entered a hospice "death and dying program".

August 5th, 2007, 10:20 PM
Well, kinda, that's from November. I was finally able to get back through her Yahoo group to her post - the chemo is too harsh and making her unable to eat, combined with some other meds she was given when on "break" from chemo, and her colon is not working either. She can't even keep her pain meds down, and is sleeping most of the time. She is with the "death and dying" hospice now. I'm trying to go back to the post where someone says how people can contribute, but net is not co-operating.

"If you can be an in home caregiver, please call Jan at 831-345-3658 as
soon as possible as we need to have the care in place in the next
week. You can also email me at palikaji@....

If you want to send $20 per month or as a one time support gift please
write your check to Palika and mail to PO Box 3662 Santa Cruz
California 95063. We cannot have checks written in Shekhinah's name
due to income limitations and the fragile social services she
recieves. I will cash all checks or money orders written for her and
they will be used to pay for in home health service support aids."

Shekhinah was an old friend of mine , in Santa Cruz...
we respected each other's paths...and would sit together ,
and talk...

I am sorry to hear of this...I care for her...she was a kind soul...

She shared things with me , and I with her...as she said...

" Very few know..."

She is in my thoughts...and heart...

I got emails in my inbox this morning from the Z Budapest yahoo group saying she (that is Z) was going to go down and give her the "last rights" soon. I was careful to say "may leave us soon" in the OP because I know that yahoo can get a little temperamental.

It is sad news to here that she has been deteriorating nonetheless. I never had the pleasure of meeting or conversing with her. I only just got my hands on a copy of Ariadne's Thread last month and was unable to join Moonspells yahoo group. So have only really "known of" her for a few months.

It is a conflicting feeling to read the works of such ladies as Shekhinah that are so full of vitality and then hear that they are struggling. There is such a large gap between the pioneer generation and mine making me wish I'd been born a few decades earlier at least.

My heart goes out to her.

Thats strange. I looked on the site and the message I read was 37143. I haven't checked back to November so maybe it was repeated again.

Thank you for posting the information on this. I can't afford to help her right now financially but I will be lighting a candle and sending my prayers to her. :hugz:

That's terrible. I just ordered her book, Ariadne's Thread, so I'm not too familiar with her or work yet and I'm sad to say that I won't have time to explore her ideas more.

One of the things I loved about Shekhinah...

She was intelligent...but she was childlike...
a rather large woman...who had the eternal child within her...
and as she is still here...So is that child...and , because that was
part of her gift to me...that child always will be here...

For I shall pass that child like awe of the universe...

Down the line...

Just an update before I go to bed. Received this email just a few hours ago at the most:

Dear Sisters, Friends and Everyone else in between,

Please find below a note from Frey Faust (Shekinah's son) with a heart
felt request.
If any of you are in the Santa Cruz area. We could certainly do with your help.
One thing I would like to stipulate though - this is an extremely sensitive
time for Shekinah and her family. If you feel drawn to volunteer
please remember that this is
Shekinah's process and we need to respect her wishes and leave our own
and desires at the door. (As difficult as that can be *smile*
especially when all we want
to do is help!!!!) We are here to be of service to our dear Sister. It is
important that we surround her with unconditional love, kind words and
gentle support.
Thank you all for your understanding and care.
Brightest of Blessings,
ps. Please feel free to forward this email on to anyone you know who has been
touched by Shekinah over the

Dear Friends

you might already be aware that my mother, Shekhinah,
has been struggling with cancer for the last year and
a half.

The latest is that ehr condition is worsening and that
the hospice people have been called to monitor her
last days.

As a condition for their support, they need to be
assured that Shelhiah has 24 hour care.

I am working in Europe under contract and caring for
my children at the moment and even though I cancelled
several engagements already I can only get back in 3

Now is when I could use your help.

If you can offer some time to Shekinah I would be
forever grateful.

Please call Jann at +1 831 345 3658 if you can offer
my mother care at any point during the next three

Over night support is especially

I wish I wasn't so far away. I would certainly go sit with her and keep her company. I have been reading Ruth Barrett's work, and she really respects Shekinah. Next on my Amazon list was Ariadne's thread. It's sad to hear this news. I think this may be the cusp of a time when we start losing a lot of our elders in many traditions, and lose that immediate link to the roots of movements and beliefs as they age and leave us for the next adventure. I will definitely be lighting a candle for her.

posted yesterday to A Dianic Coven mailing list...

My dear Shekhinah has begun her next journey and finished her final
chapter here on this Earth that she loved. I am so grateful that she
was able to leave with all the honor that she deserved and all the
gentleness that was such a gift from the Goddess and the Maidens and
Crones that surrounded her. My eternal gratitude for your generosity
and care.

Her words and life were about magic and here in her final hours she
opened yet another door, another teaching oh the highest of Scorpio
lessons...letting go which like her Aphrodite self, she did with grace
and beauty. I grieve as yet another of my tribe, of my lovers has left
this world and I rejoice that she is free of suffering at last and in
the arms of the Goddess once more.

Blessed Be,

Blessings of the goddess Shekhinah,

Sisters at 2:30 today PST, Shekhinah took her final
breath and went into the arms of the goddess.
Her battle with cancer is over and she's now in the light of the
goddess pain-free.

Several women have reported visitation by Shekhinah today, I being one
of them. I've no doubt she came to each of you today because she would
never leave without a big hug good-bye.

Her passing was quiet and peaceful, with one final deep exhalation she
chose to go. The sisters who are with her today have dressed Shekhinah
in her ritual robes and surrounded her with rose pedals from her
garden. It was exactly the way she'd always said she wanted her final
moments to be.

Those same sisters are now singing over her body, and soon they will
conduct the ritual washing of the body as they prepare her to go back
into the arms of the Mother.

In a few hours, a cardboard coffin will be brought in and all of
the sisters present here will decorate it with all the women's symbols
and her runes ... and much more. However, please don't rush over there
at this time if you're local and wanting to participate.
The family has asked to be alone with her for now. I will post
again, when they are ready for you. It could be tonight or it could be

Then sisters, it's going to be time to celebrate this wonderful
woman's life together. Thank you for all your love and kind words, and
for allowing me the honor of sharing her final days with you.

In the goddess light dances a white butterfly,

Shekhinah Mountainwater
October 24, 1939 – August 11, 2007

Shekhinah Mountainwater. .. Faery Bard, Radical Muse, Foremother of the Womanspirit movement, Author of Ariadne's Thread, Priestess of Aphrodite... crossed into the arms of the Great Mother at 2:30 pm PST on Saturday, August 11, 2007.

Shekhinah was a beloved sister and a teacher to countless many. She dedicated her life to sharing and expressing the love of the Goddess in all ways. Her love and spirit will continue on in the hearts of those she touched... and beyond, for generations to come.

Shekhinah was diagnosed with cancer in December 2005. She fought like an Amazon, in an amazing dance with her cancer. Always sharing her experiences, she was a teacher throughout her death transition, and continues to be even now.

Her passing was quiet, peaceful, and even beautiful; with one last deep exhalation, her spirit crossed the veil. Thursday, August 9th, her sacred last rites were performed by Z Budapest ... Shekhinah reminisced about this important, loving experience before falling into constant sleep. She was surrounded by sisters and her family at the time of her passing. She was honored with song, laughter, a few tears, the beautiful sent of roses, and lush robes... exactly what she always wished for the time of her crossing.

Dearest Shekhinah, may your spirit fly with the stars, into the arms of the Mother. May your spirit be healed and cleansed in Her cauldron; may you be comforted and rebirthed in Her womb. Our love flies with you, as our tears wet the sweet Earth. Forever shall you be loved and honored.
