View Full Version : The Calling

Merry Meet and hello everyone.
I'm Pan, and I'm new here. I thought, instead of introducing myself in a long message, I should just jump right in.
A few nights ago, I had a dream.. it was a Calling. I told various much-trusted friends about my dream and they agreed with me.. it was a Calling to become a High Priestess.
Now, I have never thought about becoming a HPS before.. and this came to me as a sort of a shock. Having Demeter come to you in a dream and tell you you're to be her battery so she can hear all her childrens' voices is rather unnerving. Not to mention that you were taking Hermes' place as said battery.
Anyway, I found a friend to help teach me, and I was also wondering if any of you had any advice. Also, I was curious if anyone else got a Callin in the way that I did. Was it as dramatic? (Demeter came to be ala Borg Queen-esque) Was it what you thought a Calling would be like?
I hope I'm not being too forward with this. And if anyone's curious about my name.. that's another dream. ;)
Thank you for reading this, and I hope to get to know you all in the time to come.

i wouldn't jump to to many conclustions unless its viciously recurring.

I respect your opinion.. and I expected such when I posted this. ;) But there's an old saying that my husband told me his mother used to tell him..
"I only have to tell you once. You'd better listen!"
I tend to think that, even though the dream hasn't happened again, a lot of recurring dreams occur because the message wasn't gotten on the first (second, third..) try. I feel very strongly about this and my intuition is screaming at me that this is the way to go.
Since figuring out that this is my Calling, I've been able to think more clearly, work better, eat better, and even sleep better. I know it's odd, but ever since I found that being a HPS is my Calling.. I've been feeling better altogether.
I'm a manic depressive with an anxiety disorder.. not to mention anorexic. So.. I've been doing a lot better in both mind, body, and spirit since this dream. It might be putting too much credit into this, but it's what I feel. That, and wonderful friends that have been there to help me out. :D
Thanks for your opinion, but I can't say I agree. ;) Hope you understand! But I'm happy you replied and I can see where your opinion would come from.
Thanks again!

Well, it seems like you are really sure that this is the way to go, so do it... just don't rush into it, take it calm and try to stay focused. If this is a calling for you surely you will get the strength and wisdom needed to make it all come real... so just stay relaxed and you'll know when and how to move...

I agree with what Emy had to say. I'd like to add that the way we know if something is *real* and *true* for us is the way our emotions respond to it. If the thought of your dream gives you a wonderful feeling of joy and fulfillment. If you know--deep in your bones, in your cells--that this is a certainty, that this is indeed your calling, then it truly is. Your goal may take years to accomplish. Your life may change drastically, but the only way to live a fulfilling life is to be true to ourselves. Blessed be and welcome to Mystic Wicks.

I think it's wonderful if this dream has helped you in so many ways. People can always debate whether it is "real" or any other thing, but if it has moved your life in this postive direction so far, how can it possibly be bad, as long as it is taken slowly and with great care and concentration?

You are all so lovely and nice! I will take all the words spoken to heart and follow such advice. I will take it slow, as I feel deep inside that this is for me. I won't rush and hope that it will take me there quicker.
For sometimes, things taken quickly that are meant to be taken slow.. if rushed.. will only set you back. :) Thank you all greatly for your words.. it really means a lot to me.
I was hoping that I wouldn't sound *too* insane by saying that one dream can make me take better care of myself.. but I guess I was thinking with my brain rather than my heart. :D
Again, thank you all.. and if I get stuck.. I know where to turn. :D

A general piece of advice I have for anyone, in any path, is this: Never turn off your BS detector.
Just because you believe in things that other people consider fantastical, doesn't mean you have to believe in anything you're told. :) It's okay for others to believe what they want; but build your beliefs upon your experiences, your intuitions, and your rational mind, and you will never do wrong by yourself.

welcome!!! :D
wow, that's incredible!! But I think I can understand.
I've never had a single, utterly intense dream. I have, however, had many many dreams about my future. . . it's creepy to know exactly what your daughter's face will look like. But I suppose I'll have to wait a few years to find out!! ^_~
Follow what feels right to you. Don't always accept what others say, for nobody's 100% right 100% of the time - always errors, that's human! and pretty much any other being period ^_~ Just follow your instincts - they'll never (almost ^^; ) lead you wrong. ;)

Well I wouldn't expect Demeter to look like Borg. Being a Greek earth/crop goddess it's surprising to imagine her as so far removed from the earth.
Since the function of a HP is more to direct and control energy and rituals, I wonder why she means you to become one to help her 'hear people's voices'. Most people believe everyone has deity inside them, and that deity is all around us, rather then far removed, so I'm surprised she told you that. Most of us believe anyone can talk to deity without an intermediary priest/ess.
So, in short, I'm sure this dream was very real to you, and if it gives you guidance and courage to do better, all the power to you! However, if I were you I'd be wary in the future if this creature talks to you in your dreams again; some spirits will impersonate deities or other entities to play with people or gain their trust. They're very convincing and sometimes its basically impossible to know for sure. Now it probably doesn't matter, but if they start returning in your dreams and tell you to like.. sell all your stuff or quit work or whatever, be careful.
Sounds like a very exciting experience either way :)
