Okay..in the last two days, both my husband, and I , have encountered the same bird, in a very wierd way. Yesterday, I was out gathering some items for a mojo bag, and a bird which I think was a cardinal (though, not the bright red kind. I forget which sex of cardinal is red, and which is grey..but this was grey), landed on a stump about three feet from me, cocked his head at me, and chattered on for like, three minutes. Just kept chattering to me. Then flew off. Tonight, John was lighting up our grill in the back yard, when the SAME bird, circled like..two feet above his head, and alighted on a branch about five feet from him, and started chattering madly at him.

I don't have a copy of Animal Speaks, but know that this is a great source for understanding omens like this. Can somebody please do a look up on the meaning of a Cardinal, and PM me the info?

In Oklahoma, the female cardinals we have a more of a gold with red markings......not sure what their meaning is either, but I had crows doing that to me over a period of several weeks. When I asked a shaman friend about it, he asked where I was seeing the crows. I was only seeing them at work and at work-related places. They were screaming at me. I was struggling with whether to quit that job at the time and finally decided to leave. The last time a crow cawed at me like that was when I was putting the last of my belongings into my car in the parking lot the day I resigned :)

I'm guessing she's nesting close by and you and your husband keep getting too near the nest for her comfort.

Hmmmm.......nesting ~ possibly heralding advice or news about your home and family? Just something that came to mind when reading Melysande's post.......

Heh..funny you should say that, Freyja. Thanks melysande, for the link. After posting here last night, I did a bit of research on the subject too...and came across another link that said much the same.

What is really interesting, is that I've been wanting to become pregnant for quite some time. And recently, the desire has become almost all consuming..and i've been plagued with fears that I might never have a child. Hubby and I are running into problems in that department. However, I'm late for my period this month (only two days), and have been feeling REALLY exhausted all the time. Taking like..two and three hour naps a day, which is really unusual for me. And been feeling a little nauseous. So..I began to think maybe I was pregnant. I had Wildchild do a reading for me, and her reading said that the cards said that I wasn't pregnant now, but that children were in my future, eventually. Yet..the feelings persisted. And I've been thinking about it constantly. The next day, is when I saw the cardinal the first time, and got a sensation that there was a message in it. I kind of gave myself a test..I started looking in the clover patches in our yard, and I asked the Goddess to give me a sign, that motherhood was possible for me. I said.."If I find ONE four leaf clover, I'll take it as a sign that i will be a mother". I found FOUR four leaf clovers that day. Then... later that night, I did a reading for myself on the subject. Many of the cards in the reading were very upsetting..but then..in the final outcome, I got the Empress.
So..I was starting to feel like maybe it WAS a possibility that I really was pregnant. Then, John asked me to do a reading about his Job in the morning, and in HIS outcome, guess which card popped up? Ten of Cups- Family! So now..I was like..ummmm...something is going on here! Then, HE saw the Cardinal later in the day, without first knowing I had seen it the day before! So..we decided to go and get a test. The results were negative. However, I still haven't gotten my period, and if it doesn't show up in seven days, I am going to retake the test.

Basically, if I'm NOT pregnant right now...then I think the Goddess is just trying to reassure me that it's not impossible, and not to give up. I think she's just sending me messages not to worry, that I will be a mom someday:)

Thanks for the imput, all :)

**smiles** I also remember a fragment of a myth that says that when a child is waiting for the right time to be born, it will often take the guise of a bird so that it can suss out the mother and/or father it has picked for a guardian.

Yep, female cardinal... been chattered at by one or two of them myself... a symbol of fertility (as you've probably found out by now)...

There are several very small cardinals hanging around my house right now - two male and two female - I wonder, are the nestlings old enough to fly now? These seem small and very young. . .

There are also at least one adult couple I see from time to time.
