Hi all - wanting to teach an art class, but wondering how to go about it exactly. I have had some help, but I thought it would be so helpful to have a sticky to get teachers started. You know - a how-to of sorts; saying how to structure, where what posts go, etc. & that kind of thing.

Saw this post below me here V & I thought, "Yes, someone asked this question" - but then saw that it is not about teaching per se, but rather about taking, the classes.

So I thought I'd just jot this down in case someone else thinks it might be a good idea. ;)

Each teacher has a different teaching style. I have been doing Cot classes since 2004 and each of my classes are done differently. you just have to figure out which way to teach would be best.

Often times the first class starts as a fly by the seat of your pants. Especially if you have never taught before. A good class outline will provide the new teacher with direction and purpose.

From what I have seen, and has been noted, each teacher has their own styles and the style they use will often depend on the type of course they are teaching and/or what their students respond to.

There are no hard and fast rules as far as "how to teach". Each teacher has to go with what makes them comfortable and what works for their students. Some teachers prefer a more formalized style of education and others prefer a more laid back style.

Again, it depends on the teacher, the subject and the students.

We don't sit around judging whether a teacher has the right teaching style or not. My advice is to address this topic you wish to teach first with a class outline and then just go for it. Don't worry about whether it should be done one way or another. Just share the information in a way that seems logical to you. And don't worry. Worrying about it and making yourself nervous just muddies the waters.

So just focus on what you want to do and do it. I have a feeling it will come out just fine and you, and those who take your class, will enjoy it.

Well, thank you! ;) I just wondered as I am SO totally new to this, I know everyone does it differently - I just thought perhaps suggestions. I'll keep looking at others' classes to get ideas, though. :)
