You can search the net for more information on dragons, look into dragon magic and alchemy, it might even be helpful to pick up Dancing with Dragons by DJ Conway.

Dragons are not to be trifled with, some people believe you can 'summon' them but you don't want to do it without doing lots of reading and preparation, and without an outstanding reason. Otherwise if you are successful at all you're liable to get toasted.

They aren't necessarily peaceful and in my studies I've found they often aren't. Some believe they are just 'other entities' like us or animals, and some believe they transcend space and time as we know it and are borne of pure chaos (which is why they would be dangerous). Either way they are usually thought of as ancient wise beings and can be small like a kitten or huge like the old stories say.

Whether you think they exist or did exist or not is up to you. That's a personal judgment you have to make.

To me, yes they have and do exist, but not on this plane. Not on earth or in space and time as we know, and I agree with those who think they are chaos and far beyond our reality, even if you can contact them here, they only come when they choose. But of course you'll want to do your own reading and create your own ideas.

Peaceful is kind of a relative term, in my opinion, the dragon that chose me is quite peaceful until she's riled, and then she gets nasty.
*shrugs*
The way I see it they're as individual as people, each with their own temperment and buttons to push.

Don't remember that part of the book, killerDream, but I don't have it anymore either.

Learn more about them and show an interest, and just like anything else if it's meant to happen one will find you. Just not something you can force or pick at.

People fear that which they don't know or understand. People destroy that which they fear.

If a dragon were to be caught on this plane for some reason, the chances are it was feared and eventually destroyed. There are enough myths and legends to suggest this is the case, however there is no proof beyond a shadow of a doubt. It could be that dragons return to their own plane when they are injured to much to remain on this one. I personally haven't worked with them much but if you do then you could ask them.

The "how" I have no idea, but the "why" I would answer with another question. Why do we, huge intelligent humans, choose to keep a little fishy in a jar on our desk? Especially when many of us eat the larger ones right in front of them? To continue with using "fish" to compare with... They live in the water and we go in and out of the water with a fare amount of ease. They die after entering "our outside world" therefore have no knowledge of it. I would imagine it may be a similar situation with dragons. We help the fish medically in ways that are impossible for them to do themselves. Again it could be similar with dragons. They could help us on levels that we can't really understand. At the same time, as I mentioned before, we eat them and catch them in masses. So while we have the ability to help them, we also kill them in large numbers.

that's how i have heard it too..that the dragons pick you if they want contact. That summoning them usually angers them.

jelly.belly
May 27th, 2002, 08:57 PM
I dont think they willnecessarly get mad if u summond them, u just have to have a good reason, not just because u wanna see one...

I believe too that they live on another plain, but i don't think they are all angry, like someone said before, they have different temperements...

A friend of mine LOVES dragons, if u want i can talk to her and ask her about what she knows, I've always loved dragons too, but i don't know as much as she does!

Actually no one said they were all 'angry'. What I did say was that they're often not peaceful. Not to be picky but the two terms are not interchangeable - one can be pretty chaotic without being angry. :D

But I do agree with your first point - I don't think they'll necessarily be angry if you summon them, but I imagine you should probably have a good reason, not just because you want to see them. If you can imagine these ancient, wise creatures.. and their concerns which are probably far beyond our imagination.. well it's probably annoying fo rthem to have every curious seeker summon them just to see if they can.

The pets analogy is kind of intriguing too - we keep pets for companionship, and we enjoy their company and their antics. Perhaps that is what dragons think of us.. perhaps it's what our own pets think of us too.

But I do agree that the dragon will choose to show itself if it wants to, like anything else. Show an interest and if you're found worthy or interesting, perhaps one will make itself known. There isn't anything you can do but continue to learn, and I suppose the more effort you make to learn the more honest and true you will seem, and the more likely they will come to you. Personally I have found lots of information online; even if you must wade through the "BS" you will have lost nothing but time and gained knowledge and perhaps a better chance of contact. *shrugs* I think the most important thing is to be open and honest.

When I was babbling on about little fishies, I wasn't only referring to the pets part. Humans often help wildlife as well. I just meant that we do things that may not be understood by the creature that we are helping. Or harming (for food, game, etc), for that matter. I don't know.

You're always welcome here at this site. No one is a powerless person, no matter what you think your abilities are. Magical power is not something that just comes with a snap of a finger or reading the right books or whatever. It takes a lot of work. And it could take a lot of time. Don't be discouraged if it takes years to perfect your abilites.

You've never mentioned how far along you are in your studies. But one of the most important foundation for any magic workings is the ability to focus your mind, to visualize, to meditate, grounding and centering. I would suggest checking out some of the stuck threads at the top of this forum. It's like you have to learn your additions & subtractions before you can attempt calculus. Leave the summonings of dragons & other magical entities for later on.

If you know all this already, my apologies. It was not my intention to come across as condescending.

If you leave now then you will most likely have a tougher time learning about the path in the future unless you can network with local Pagans in your area.

However if you continue your learning with the people here, asking questions and moving slowly then one day you just might be able to talk with dragons. Or you may find that your power and talents lay elsewhere and follow those tangents to fulfillment. Not everyone is meant to be a master clairvoyant, summoner, diviner, or herbalist (to name a few things) but each person has their innate gifts that can be fine-tuned with proper training and study.

Learning to clear your mind can take months or even years of practice. It doesn't just come to you one day, and takes gradual exercises, like Wildchild mentioned. Each of them may take weeks, months, or more on their own to be learned. Be patient and keep at it :)

Just be careful if you decide to do something like this. Only do it after you ask your self (honestly ask yourself) if you are ready for this. The reason I'm saying this is because my friends Aunt messed with things she knew nothing about and started hearing voices, and went to the loony bin for a good while. She later became a Jehovah's Witness. Just be careful and safe if you ever decide to do somthing like this. Maybe I'm just TOO careful.:D

I agree, take your time if you are interested in contacting dragons, or other elemental beings. They don't function on our sense of reality, morality..or anything like that. Dragons, unless I'm wrong, are associated not only with chaos, but with fire. And amazing amount of energy there! It's not to be trifled with. My suggestion would be to learn alot about the lore, and magickal associations of dragons, and see for sure whether or not you need to contact them in your rituals. If there is something you need to learn from them or something you need their help in.

I too have seen alot of ill come of people messing with elemental creatures and beings of other realms too soon on in their path, or without proper preparation or goals.

These beings fascinate something deep within the human psyche, that much is for sure. But to unleash something that you are ill equipped to deal with, could wreak havoc in your own life, and the lives of those around you.

Working with a Dragon, is not like taming a horse. You can't "Sing" to it, to calm it down, or to put it under your thumb. In fact, I don't think it can be under your control, or thumb at all. It will work WITH you, if it suits the both of you..it doesn't work FOR you under your command. In my opinion. It's not like having a seamonkey for a pet :) They're not "cute" or any of those ideals. They are highly powerful, and magickal beings. Ancient and wise. To tap into their power, and to work with them, you must have a tremendous amount of respect for them. Not the same respect as you would give to a horse, or a pet dog, but the respect of one equal, and perhaps even surpassing your own knowledge of this reality and the next.

Singing isn't going to be any difference then talking would. So if you feel like singing go ahead. Why'd you ask about 3 letter words?
