I just did a reading for myself, and for the first time I had a spread that I did not understand! Some of the cards were in positions that just didn't make sense to the question.

Let me explain a bit further -

I have been cruising various sites, and I found an email address of a person who lives in my area who is trying to form a coven. I wrote, he wrote back, and offered to meet with me. Being a shy (and cautious!) person by nature, I did a reading to gain some insight on possible outcomes. I used a Rider-Waite deck, and the Celtic Cross spread. To get some help from above I cast a circle before shuffling. Here's what I got:
1. 5 cups
2. Empress
3. Page of cups
4. King of pentacles
5. 9 of cups
6. 5 of wands reversed
7. 8 of pentacles
8. Devil
9. Strength
10. Hierophant reversed

Many of these cards could be applied to other conditions that have occurred, but I'm having difficulty finding the common thread to my initial question! Any help you can send is GREATLY appreciated!!

The easy answer would be if it doesn't make sense re do the spread.

Otherwise, maybe you could point out exactly what doesn't make sense here, it'd be kind of tedious for everyone to do the whole spread themselves with no idea what you got from it or the situation involved?

Hi Kalosi,

I think a big part of the meanings of the cards would depend on the question in the spread & what they're supposed to represent. Not knowing that would make it hard to guess what they have in common.

But sometimes, I find that I just don't understand what the cards are trying to tell me too. When that happens, I try to stop making sense of it, according to what I think should makes sense. And open myself up & go with my intuition. I find it helpful to write down all the sensations & feelings of the cards down & then read through that. I've even taken a couple of days to go over them sometimes.

Well, I still haven't figured it out, but I thank Myst and Wildchild for their advice. The funny thing is I can apply that particular spread to about three other situations currently in my life, but they really don't affect the outcome from my original question! So, to answer myself, I think I'd better come up with a different phrasing for the question!

hehe could be, either that or the tarot cards think you should concentrate on that which you didn't ask first :)
