I just read an older thread about rituals and it was said that you don't need to be elaborate and you can select the bits that you want to use. Does that mean you don't have to cast a power circle? I thought that was important? UUUUMMMMMMMMMM help!

hmm. . . I almost never cast any sort of circle if I'm doing energy workings. . . :) it probably just depends on your tradition. Do whatever feels right?

For most people it is important. As you know, one casts a circle to keep energy in until it is to be released, and distractions out. It also provides a cleansed, sacred space for you to welcome deity into. Circle casting is especially important to many Wiccans, especially since it's an integral part to Gardnerian and Alexandrian Wicca, but yeah some people don't do it.
If you think it's an important step I'd say you should really continue doing it. I always do; whether it means just visualizing a white circle around me or doing an elaborate casting ritual.
