Ummmmmm..folks...I'd just like to say that it might be particularly wise to say something to the effect of.."The Propaganda of SOME Christians".

Not saying its' happened in this thread so far..but..I wouldn't want to see this become a Christian Bashing thread.

whoah, chill danu.

LOL I was joking about how some propganda got stuck in my head. . . surely we've all gotten political stuff or even fluffybunny pagan stuff stuck before. Or barney. :D Let's not forget Barney.

Would barney-bashing be more suitable? ;)

well. . . see. . . it's propganda. . . and it's christian-themed. . . hence it's christian propoganda. Just like propoganda. . . put out by say hard core rock. . . . is hard core rock propoganda! Not "metallica is evil bwahahahaha let's bash them" ;) I just have some stupid comics stuck in my head and they're polluting my mind LOL I have nothing against christianity - it's a really cool religion. I just hate fanatics. I hate fanatical pagans too. I'm a non-descriminatory hater. Kinda. ;)

. . . damn that doesn't sound like I wanted it to -_-;

Ummmmm..believe me...I'm quite chilled. I wasn't saying you were being discriminatory..just saying that I think people should try to keep the rule of respect in mind when replying to this thread, because we all know how quickly these type of threads can run downhill into christian bashing. So..maybe you need to chill?;) :p

Well, as the great grand daughter, great niece, and niece of innumerable Southrn Baptist preachers, I have to say, it gets to me too. Fortunately, that side of the family is far more accepting of me not being Christian than the other. . . Even all Southern Baptists aren't hellfire and brimstone. Of course, I never knew my great grandfather, and he's supposed to have been. . .

But if you really want to feel like the weight of the very weird Fundies is crashing down on you, I recommend coming to visit me in Nashville, Puma. The scary ones are all here, including the Benny Hinn Trinity Broadcasting Network. . .

Of course, there are also plenty of liberal and moderate Christians, Jews, Buddists, Moslems, Pagans, Hindus and so on - you're just not allowed to admit it in the local media. . . ;)

Every time I think "Barney," I think the episode where he got stuck between two swingset posts on the playground and tried to pass it off as part of the plot.
...did I just admit to something I shouldn't have?
...darn. Oh well, at least I still have my self respect.

**Funny little side note. I think i've mentioned that Eshallet is a Park Ranger for the County we live. Yesterday, while out checking on some new park land they've recently acquired, he found a book. It was the Jehovah Witness Handbook to their door to door visits!!! I almost dropped the phone cause I was laughing so hard. They've been in our neighborhood lately. In fact, we, uh, think we might've scared a couple. Cause, they um, well, came to the door at an inappropriate moment. ;)

He read me a few parts, like that they should respect when other's disagree with them and NOT force their views upon those they call on. AND, my favorite....They are supposed to "take notes" and mark those houses that have expressed no interest, so that they <get this> NOT CALL ON THAT HOME AGAIN. That just makes me laugh, because we've slammed the door, not answered, scared them ;) and basically said, "GO AWAY" and they STILL come a knocking on our door.

Just thought I'd share. :D

Seriously, LdyStarlite? They refuse to come around our street now for some reason... (We haven't seen them here for about 2 years now!)

Not that *we* did anything to scare them off.

Well, honestly, I think part of the problem with my house, there are two familes living here. Me & My son and then the other part, is my dad & his wife. One of my Dad's greatest pleasures in life is to MESS with people's heads. Or try to. He's the oldest of 8, all born and raised Irish Catholic, however, all of them with the exception of 2 following different paths. Dad, I classify as Unitarian and he has a sister who is Jehovah. From what I understand from others, she was warned YEARS ago, NEVER PREACH to the family. Which should work out well for me this July, since we are having a reunion and I am FRIGHTEND on how to deal with them all, only because the last time, I wasn't even close to my path (well, close, just not actively seeking). I'm not really "out" to the family. Don't plan to be either, but i also do not plan to take my pentacle off. So, the issue may or may not be brought up, cause heck, what's a reunion without bashing Starlite. The last one it was "why don't you have a job,you have a child to support!!! What do you mean you just spent the last 2 weeks driving around the East Coat following a band? Grow up!!!" and during that time I had allies, but I don't think, if it comes down to it, I will this time. C'est la vie, I just plan on drinking heavily this time around. :D

When I was in high school, we scared JW away from our door. My mom would pretty much go away every weekend when we were teens. One Saturday morning, my brothers noticed they had decended on our neighborhood, so we got ready. As they walked up the sidewalk leading to our apartment, we started blaring Slayer's song "angel of death" I sat at the dining room table (easily seen from the front door) in a nightie smoking a ciggarette, we didn't clean up from our party, so there were beer cans EVERYWHERE. TV was on, it was great. We scared them so bad. Got a prayer out of them and everything. :D

:o I'm glad that I live so far away from most of my relitaves! (though most of them aren't religious in any way, shape or form anyway)...Family reuions scare me half to death anyway since I don't know them all! (Run in fear! Run in fear!)

As for the JW's... :eyebrow: Dad slammed the door at them once - only because Mom wasn't home to take care of them. Every time I answered the door, I was in PJ's, staring at them like they were nuts to be up at (*gasp*) 10 AM going door-to-door and irritating people.

Though, a friend of mine had some friend of his parents over once who *really* likes to talk a lot, so when the JW's came over to his house, they just said that the friend wanted to learn something about their religion...JW's were standing there for 2-3 hrs. later, still listening to the guy talk! :rotfl:

I used to love watching Oral Roberts heal people on TV when I was a kid. It fascinated me how he'd whack people in the head, scream "Jesus, heal him/her!" & those people would go crashing down all over the stage. My fascination ended the day I got in trouble with my mum because I tried to heal my kid brother's cold by slapping his forehead & yelling at him.
I remember there used to be an African-American preacher on TV (his name escapes me) who used to preach that the bible was translated wrong, that it really said "The lack of money is the root of all evil." He'd urge people to stand up so they could reach their wallets, & say that G*d wasn't happy because there was nothing bigger than twenties on the money tables up front.
Now, once in a while I watch the Catholic channel because there is an old monk/friar/priest. I love the sound of his voice, though I don't listen to the words he says. I watch one show on Trinity channel occasionally. There's a woman with on it Tammy Faye make-up & hair that cannot possibly be real...it looks like peach-colored cotton candy. She is scary. Watching her makes me feel as if I have to wash my face...how can she stand such thick goop on her face? I bet she has to take her make-up off with a sander.

"What a friend we have in Cheez-Whizz".

hehe. the last time the Jahova's Witnesses showed up, I think I gave the lady a corinary. I walked to the door in a tank top, blue jeans, and my pentacle is on a short chain right up at my neck. The thing she gave me said "Can I Worship God The Way I Want To?" (go figure!) and she started talking and would not STOP staring at my necklace. I got a free Bible lesson with the visit :)

My younger sister is worse. A few days ago, my Mom and 2 sisters went to the mall and they were stopped at the front by 2 kids giving out things about Chrisianity and the Devil and all that. The girl asked if they believed in Heaven. My Mom answered and said "I do, but they have a problem with it" and the girl asked if they thought they were going to Heaven. My Mom said "yes, I do" my twin sister (though pagan, doesn't like to start trouble) said "same". The girl looks at my younger sister and asks where she thinks she's going and my sister says "straight to hell" and the girl asked "oh? do you think you'll like it there?" and my sister, being who she is, says "yes. I think I will" So basically, the kids got a good scare :)

we haven't seen them in a long time. once, they came around, and apparently misinterpretted the Bible or something. One neighbor was having a yard sale, so of course, everyone else started selling things too, and we where all out and about when they came knocking. My mom told them off at our house, and everybody heard. We haven't seen them since.

I can't believe after a couple of years, JWs picked this morning to come a knocking again....I answered the door, with a mop in one hand a bucket in the other ( still cleaning those hardwood floors we ripped the carpet off of this weekend)....and she asked "Can I have a moment of your time?" and I just said.."No. Please leave."She said,"I want to talk..." and I said, "I don't, please leave" and shut the door........She left..........Sigh, I must be mellowing...............

JW kind of stopped visiting my area, too. And they always gave us beautiful books full of pictures;) . I used to cut them and make collages from them. The rest was always thrown away :D

Ah, and I can remember my friend once saying to get rid of them:
Thanks, but thank God I'm an atheist:D
