The university I worked for referred to lab animals as "wetware." I remember some appearing in a container, and one of our professors smiling and gaily making a throat-slashing gesture. For what? Oh, so one of the students could make data and kill them for an upcoming science fair.
Know what "higher education" teaches us? The triviality of life and that it's okay to kill "inferiors" who are defenseless and useful. Hmm...that lesson seems somehow terribly familiar...

Universities and medical schools have been criticised for increasing the number of animals used in research by more than 50% since 1996 while industry has reduced its procedures by 20% over the same period.
