As many of you know, the recovery efforts at Ground Zero in NYC are officially coming to a close Thursday AM. The ceremonies will be televised (in the NYC area) on NBC starting at 10am, and MSNBC as well as I'm sure other cable news stations.
I would like to make a special request here. As you all remember, on September 17th, there was a special candlelight vigil where all of us had a candle in our windows. I'm hoping that we can do that again on Thursday nite.
It is officially Memorial Day (May 30th & my mother's birthday by the way) and it only seems fitting that we should honor those who were never recovered as well as the workers who's lives are about to change tremendously now.
I personally have not handled the whole 9/11 thing well. However, it is nothing compared to what these men and women have had to go through on a 24/7 basis down at Ground Zero. They've been working on pure adrenaline trying to recover as many vicitms as possible. A worker said on the news today that they are trained to keep going until all victims are recovered from any scene--the fact that so many have not been recovered is starting to take it's toll on them already.
And so I ask you all this, please, sometime on Thursday nite, light a candle. It doesn't have to all be at the same time. Maybe after you've had dinner, or put the kids to bed, whatever. But light that candle and send some healing energy and light to those men and women who do not have to report to Ground Zero for duty on Friday. Light it for those families who have not been given the closure they were so hoping for. And light it simply to help us all gain the peace we so desire.
Thank you and many, many blessings to you all.
