 I just need to let this out..
My MIL comes over today to give us her portion of the rent and also brings over a BEAUTIFUL white dress for hannah for her wedding.
She wants ME to see about dying it GREEN!!
1. We dont have the money,as were trying to save as much as we can for the move back to NH.
2. It's a BEAUTIFUL, WHITE dress!! ( She's not even wearing a white wedding gown,but a PINK one!! ??
Ok,I feel better :D

People who create problems just because they enjoy it will get their due someday.
In the meantime, you can say to her what you said to us(politely), and just require the respect that she demands.

Heres the dress..
Maybe we can find something green for her to wear with it. I am NOT dyeing this dress.

Pink and green? Is it a watermelon themed wedding?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Um yeah, I wouldn't dye it green either, that's nuts. If it had to have been green a green dress should have been purchased in the first place. Ridiculous.
Maybe you can add a green sash and she can carry a basket with a green ribbon to match the sash or something. If any color, I'd dye it pink to match the bride, if I absolutely had to.
Green? I'm still stuck on that combo.

LMAO
I had given her a green dress with white polka dots for her fiances grand daughter as it had outgrown hannah.. well, she decided to use it for her wedding.. This dress she just recieved from her fiances daughters's BF. (it was his sisters)
Since the other dress has white in it, then I'll talk to her about maybe hannah wearing a green necklace and your idea about the basket/ribbon.
p,s.- I just called her and she's fine with what im planning on doing. (phew)
for me to dye it green,it would be like shaving hannahs head! I Just CANT do it.
:D (although hannahs now screaming "I want a PINK dress".
She'll get over it. :D

Uh, I just don't understand the problem. You didn't pay for the dress did you? If she wants it green and she provided the dress, why shouldn't you do her the favor of dying it? After all, she is your MIL. Why not do the little things to get along with her? A package of Rit dye didn't used to cost more than a few cents. It can't be very expensive.
As a girl, my friends and I dyed things all the time. It isn't very hard. Just read the instructions on the package and don't get the dye all over the place. If I could do it when I was a teen, surely you can. You can usually get dye at the grocery store or Wal-Mart.
Honestly, I bet she thinks what she asked is no big deal and would only take a few cents and a little of your time which is probably true. My advice is don't make a big deal out of such a little thing and get along with your husband's mother. He loves her, too, you know. So, be nice to her.

thank you Ssanf for posting your thoughts/opinion.
The dress is made out of polyester and nylon and is also dry clean only.. I have NEVER dyed anything so I know I would ruin the dress..
Nor do I have the time to spend dying it as were moving less than a week after her wedding.
Nor do I have to like my MIL. I am civil with her for my children and husbands sake. He wants to move as far away as we can from her because of the way she's treated US in the past.. there is just alot of pent up anger we feel for her right now.
Hopefully we can make amends in the future.. I just dont feel now is the right time to bring it up to her .

I have never paid for anything to be died so I don't know about that. I suppose, I would have to consider the cost. If it wasn't a lot, I would just do it.
I hope you all get along in the future.

I was going to ask what kind of fabric the dress is made of (but you already answered before I could ask ;) ), but I noticed that the dress has more than one kind of fabric so the chances of both fabrics coming out the same color, even if it "took" the color at all, are not real great. Somehow I doubt your MIL knows much of anything about dying fabric either. So glad she understood your concern and accepted your compromise. Good for you for offering a compromise instead of going off on her.

Yea and I read online that if the thread is polyester it wont be able to be dyed and then you'll have a green dress with white thread. (wouldnt look good).
I didnt want hannah to stand out more than the other flower girl. I sugessted to her that if she has them toss flowers. Hannah could always have a green basket/ white ribbon and give Brianna a white basket/ green ribbon.
I told her I will buy hannahs accessorys though.
the tag said 100% polyester,and 100% netted/red? nylon ( Dry clean Only)
She's getting married on the 22nd,on my parents anniversary. I also have a friend in NH who is getting married the SAME day. :D

I don't think I'd try to dye something that said "dry clean only". I like the idea of a green dress and a white basket and then a white dress and a green basket. I'll bet all the guests will think it was planned that way and say how lovely it looks!
It was rather odd I thought that when my ex and I decided to get married we learned that both our parents were married on the same day in May - but in different years. I have such a hard time remembering dates that it helped me not to have to learn a new anniversary date. :)

OH absolutely the green dress, white sash and white basket with green ribbon and white dress, green sash, green basket with white ribbon will be adorable.
The dress will not come out well with a home dye job (rit simply won't do that job).
But satin ribbon is fairly cheap and baskets can be had at the dollar store and even spray painted.

I agree, dyeing green is tough (my spotted pants and shorts can attest to that!). I have experience dyeing clothes, and can see there is no way that dress would dye evenly. Not sure if the attached belt is truly attached, but a green sash in it's place would be fine.
Better to have a white dress with a green sash than a dress with mixtures of shades of green.

The sash on Hannahs dress is attached/sewn on..
I'll figure something out..

Hmm. You can get a chunkier sash (I mean, thicker, but I like the word 'chunky' :hehehehe: ) that would cover up the white one! Just an idea.

Yep there is no way you could get that dress a nice, even green. A green sash, scarf or shawl would do just fine. The girls could wear white and green ribbons in their hair as well as the baskets. Along with necklaces and bracelets in the correct colors. Should be cute.

I was thinking either ribbons,or green and white headbands.. :)

How about several thin green satin ribbons...you could make the sash looked striped by tacking the thin ribbons (maybe three of them) around the existing sash waist..then after the wedding, take out the tiny tack down stitches, and the dress would be back to normal. Or maybe find polka dot green n white ribbon and use that as a sash trim on the existing sash?

Good idea! :) If I use white thread it shouldnt be noticeable either. That I can do.
I'll most likely get them both headbands as well.

Dreamspell, take a closer look at the sash, I don't think a sash like that would be sewn on completely, you may just be able to unpick the stitches that are holding it on.

I looked and it is sewn on into the fabric of the dress..
On another note.. Look what Vincent will be wearing! :D
I bought the fabric /ribbon today and also bought white flower girl baskets and pink baby silk flowers (roses) to pin onto the girls dresses.
Hannah really wanted pink in her dress, and mom said either pink or green. That if she wanted pink it would be fine as she's wearing pink.
the ribbon is also a light pink. I also bought the petals for them to throw. (white rose petals) and I also got headbands. there were like 5 in the package,so hannah could wear pink or green and brianna can wear white. (all together only about 25.00)
So I have 2 weeks to attach the pink ribbon to the dress. (I also got pink thread)

Heres how it looks now. Was easier than I thought it was going to be. There were 2 loops in the middle that I was able to loop the pink ribbon under. It's actually blanket binding satin.
hannah said that it looks just like cinderella's dress. She kept asking me every 5 minutes earlier if It was done yet. I'm also going to put some of the binding around the middle of the white bow.

I agree with Hannah, it's much prettier now with the pink ribbon than when it was all just plain white. :)

She looked so beautiful this morning in her dress, I started to Cry!! My husband asked why I was crying and I told him she is almost 5. Growing up,and someday she will be the one getting married.
I told my husband that vincent looks like a hobbit in the first picture. :D (with his big feet) ( a cute hobbit)
I sent my mom a bunch of photos through walgreens today and she cant believe how big they are already (and she also loved the dress)
My mother in Law is taking hannah overnight tomorrow,so I will show her the dress then.
