Hello Mentors,

First let me thank you for taking the time and effort to help your Pagan community here on MW. We hope to offer a friendly forum for mentors and newbies to meet, get to know eachother, and form mutually beneficial partnerships. Please stay tuned for future threads meant to develop our understanding of what we can give as mentors, and what newbies are looking for from us. You will be expected, of course, to participate in discussions here to help flesh out who you are as a mentor and what you can provide.

In the meantime, please post in this thread to "check in" and show your interest in this program. If you could please include your gender, age, primary path, and other Pagan specializations, along with how long you have been practicing Paganism, it would be appreciated. This thread can simply serve as a register, so we'll know who's interested. I may also nudge you in PM to join future discussions here :) Then we'll have other threads to discuss various aspects of mentoring and learn about eachother. I'm also looking to develop more detailed discussions of your specializations and interests in other threads so we can better help newbies find you.

Hope this is helpful and thank you once again. Please feel free to send me your comments, questions, suggestions, and ideas.

How long have you been practicing: I started first connecting with this path when I was about 12, but in retrospect my bond with animals has always been here. Gender: Female
Age: 35

Herbalism
Candle Magic
Catholicism, and yes its very mystic . . . so I'm including it.
Working with Astral beings.
Solitary work
Group work

How long have I been practicing:
I was raised in the Christian faith, specifically Southern Baptist. I left that path in 2000 to embrace Paganism, however I never quit believing in the primary beliefs of the Christian path. IE One God, the specialness of Jesus, and the history recorded in the Christian Bible. I became a Catholic last Easter, and have since woven my witch path and Catholicism together into my own path. I find it suits me and those who have joined me in learning how to weave the two together. So, practicing witch, I would say with learning behind it since 2000. I've always been connected to nature, and so I don't really date myself. I think I was always a witch, just didn't have the guidance and learning I do today. So, here I am your first Christian Witch mentor ;)

primary path: -Kemetic/Egyptian

other Pagan specializations:
Eclectic Wicca
Crystals/Stones
Candle Magic

how long you have been practicing Paganism: Officially... off and on since 1998

Ages ago I was a mentor in an online coven I belonged to, and I liked
the interaction, but since I changed paths I have not had the
opportunity.

Over the years I have been very eclectic in my interests. I started out with an interest in the occult around the age of 12, cast my first spell at 16, and officially decicated myself to Wicca when I was 20, in 1998. I have some knowledge of Thelema as well. In 2006 I found Kemetic Orthodoxy, but I have fallen back to a more general Kemetic/Egyptian influenced pagan path. Overall I consider myself well rounded.

I also have 2 kids who are getting interested in Paganism, so would be able to chat about that aspect as well.

Just curious, mentors, got newbies? Wondering if people are still actively mentoring and uh newbie-ing? :)

I am now done with the last newbie I had ( Aveline ) and can take a new one if needed. I believe she sent you a PM letting you know how I did.

RainInanna

I've got two requests at the moment, I just PM'd one back earlier. If you can hold I'll get that directed your way. Perfect timing too :)

Gender: Female, but very, very gay.
Age: 29
Primary path: Reclaiming Pantheism (Naturalistic Pantheism is what I believe; Reclaiming-tradition Witchcraft is how I practice)
Specializations: Tarot, trancework, queer spirituality, elemental magic, kitchen witchery, music as practic and magic, ecstatic and improvisational ritual, art (especially writing) in spirituality. Please note that I view magic as "psychology for romantics" - that is, I believe its effects are only on the caster. So a newbie looking for a song to make someone fall in love with them or elemental magic to flood their ex's house is not going to find it from me.
Time on the path: 7 years

Windsmith - I have another member who I believe would love to work with you, I hope she will contact you. :)

Other mentors - Thank you so much for offering to help. You are really doing a wonderful "service" by offering to guide our newbies. That said, I know some newbies are a little nervous about PMing people, especially when they're brand new to the site. Please feel free to approach people who have recently posted in the newbie check-ins, they may just be a little shy about approaching you first :)

Oh - and if you would like, perhaps you could add to your siggie to show your Mentor status - ie. "Available for Mentoring, please PM me". I'd love to help people connect, although maybe that'd make others feel more comfy about PMing you directly, since they know that you are available? Up to you, and thanks again.

Name: Nira/Mysterious Willow
Gender: Female
Age: 19 about to be 20
Path: Eclectic Draconic Wiccan
Pagan Skills: Dragon Magick (spells, circle casting etc.), Dragon Companions, Astrial Travel, Meditation, Sheilding and protection (probably more but just can't think of any right now).

Kaylara
February 3rd, 2008, 09:29 AM
Name: Kaylara
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Primary Path: Eclectic Gardnerian / Checkerist (Poly-Pantheism)
Pagan Specializations: Wicca, Energy Work, Divination, Herbalism, Spellcrafting, Folklore, Mythology, Astral Projection, etc. (Too much to list, honestly.)
Experience: Just about 14 years now. :)

I want to reiterate that being a mentor does not mean doing all of the work for the newbies. We're here to help when we can, and give guidance. But doing the work for someone else doesn't help them to learn.

If you are considering me as a mentor for you, please keep in mind that I do expect you to work for your knowledge. I can point you in the right direction, support you, etc, but I will not being doing the work for you.
