Daddy Long Legs

I was sitting here at my puter and felt a ticklin on my arm. Looked down to see a Daddy Long Legs. I freaked out because it was so big and that's my first reaction to big bugs and I threw it across the room.

My parents and grandparents always told me not to hurt Daddy Long Legs but I can't remember why. It was an omen of some kind. I've poked around on the net and all I find is if you kill one the cows will go dry and if you kill one, you will lose a friend. But that's not it. I was thinking it was an omen of pregnancy or something. The sites also say that they will point to where the cows are if you ask them.

I have two questions. One, how in the world did they ever get connected to cows. Two, did any one else learn something different about their meaning?
