Alright, I got a suggestion from another MW member (Mnemosyne) to start a forum about Native American Dieties, I thought this too was a great idea. Learn a little from everyone. Sounds good? Okie doke. Well, I'm going to start this forum off by giving you guys a link to Native American God/desses. Short definitions about each god is there also. It's not much, but it tells you all (that i know of) of their god/desses. We could all do a little research on each one to see more about them! Sound good? I think so. :) Welp, here's the link, let's get this forum going! hehe

Now, when someone has a question about a certain god/dess, we can all do a little searching around for as much information as we can find on that certain god/dess of the person's question. Or, if you want, we could go down the list of god/desses and do them all in a row? Tell me which you guys/girls prefer and we can get this started. :) Thanks for the suggestion Mnemosyne! BB and MP, all!

I liked that link. Not only can you learn a little about the Native American gods, but the site gives a good list of Celtic, Egyptian, Near Eastern and classical gods.
Wow, there are so many Native American dieties to learn about. Who is the main god? I know that Native American values nature quite highly. What is the main god's connection with nature. For example, the Greek supreme diety, Zeus, is the god of the sky while the Egyptian supreme diety, Ra, is associated with the sun. Do you work with a specific Native American diety?

Please, place the URL up and maybe a short excerpt. I don't care if there is a visible copyright, someone took the time to put it up.

Forget it, I deleted all my posts on here besides the first on, this web forum is too picky about what people put in their posts. I just copy information from a web site that took the information themselves and put it on their web site. I was just making it easier for the users at MW to read the information instead of going to different web sites, I just put them all together. Then people get all cranky when I post them. I will no longer be posting on these web boards. Farewell to the all worthy users. Goodbye to the others.. farewell, Myst. :x Nice PM...
BB and MP to all the users who deserve it :D :D

If you can't have enough respect for the person who did the research or the Staff of this site good riddance to you.

I'm sure the rest of us can discuss Native American Deities without violating the copyright rules here.

I'm just wondering about something...the term "Native American deities". Would that include the Inuits and the Mexican/Spanish ones as well?

I think so. When I say Native American I often mean Native Canadians anyway :)

Interesting point. It seems like in shcool we might have only covered tribes that lived at least part of the time in the confines of the Unites States. Cherokee, Apache, Iroquois, Navajo, Cheyenne, Hopi, etc. So I looked a little and found this site:
http://curtis-collection.com/tribalindex.html
Seems like I should know more about the tribes (or at least know their names) before I study their deities. Seems only fair.

Here is an interesting map:

So, should I be saying "tribe" or "culture?"

hhmmm. I don't know Mithrea. From what I understand, the tribes had different beliefs; therefore, they each had their own culture. I'm learning so much about Native American mythologies already. I was soooo ignorant that I overlooked that each tribe would have their own dieties and stories. What was I thinking?
I found this site that has REALLY short stories about the constellations.

This site gives a basic overview of the Native American mythologies and is an interesting source. (Hey, Wildchild, this site answers your question about Native American dieties. This author states that myths from all over North America, Central America, and even parts of South America fit in the category of North American mythology.)

Wow! I'm not even halfway going through all these links yet! :) That's a good point, Mithrea about it being tribe or culture.

I would say culture. Tribes are smaller and are part of a culture, I think. For example my grandmother was of the Blackfoot tribe of the Mohawks (who were part of the Iroquois). I think the myth belongs to the Mohawk (and the Iroquois as a whole), rather then specifically to the Blackfoot tribe.
