The Rune Poem - Verse XIX
A steed is the joy of the nobles,
they stand proud
while wealthy men upon their backs swop words
and to discomfort brings comfort.
Runic Number: 19
Letter: E
Old English Name: Eh
Meaning: Horse, Momentum, Unity
Element(s):Earth
Zodiac Sign: Aries
Gemstone: Iceland Spar
Colour: white
Introduction
Ehwaz means horse, the Vikings put great value on these creatures recognising their important contribution in battle, travel and in working the land. In many ways horses had a very direct impact on improving the Viking way of life, this fact was appreciated and never taken for granted.
Interpretation
Upright.
This may well prove to be a good time for travel or perhaps a journey of a different kind. Venturing out with the intention of creating new situations in either your home or work life should bear fruit.
This is also a sign that you are on track, all your efforts are coming to fruition.
Inverted.
You may be losing your way. Things appear unclear. Your are lacking energy & drive and are left with the feeling that you are being left behind or worse, that you are actually going backwards.
There will be little pleasure from travel and running to escape your problems is a futile exercise. Sudden changes are not the solution.
Credit and thanx to Curtiz-Caine who has agreed to let me use his info without citing his name in every thread

Here's a picture of Ehwaz. The Little Giant Encyclopedia of Runes states that it's depicted as two horses facing one another, two upright trees bound together representing the divine twins, Freyja and Frey:

If Ehwaz comes up in your reading, you may be traveling, but think short trip; as far as you might ride a horse (or drive a car :D ) in a day. It might also indicate things being in motion, or maybe feeling unsettled. It symbolizes the 'baser self' (as the next Rune, mannaz, symbolizes the 'higher self'), & is therefore sometimes considered the 'sex Rune'.
Ehwaz is a relationship Rune. The shape of Ehwaz implies two people holding hands, or shaking hands, or perhaps holding each other at arms length. While some refer to it as the 'marriage' Rune, I feel that any relationships implied by Ehwaz are more of a business nature, or more casual than 'mate' relationships.
Ehwaz relates to the physical body, & can be used magically in shapeshifting & fertility rites.

I had no idea about it being a sex rune, hmm makes me understand a little more about my personal background with this rune... a long story and one im not in anymore thank Odin!
Yes, it means travel to me, travel in a literal sense and an emotional one, a new adventure, a new start, a new project.
It normally means travel for the better, that you may be going on a great trip to new knowledge.
It also means control, loyality, teamwork and trust because of the horse translation and to me as Ive always undertsood it as two horses working together, two horses head bowing to eachother, like what Rick said about a relationship, the teamwork or two friends, colleagues or horses working together to pull both with equal strength to achieve a greater goal together.
But one has to be careful with this balance and control so that it is controlled and cared for at all times and not left to get out of control and cause damage..

God/Goddess: Freyja/Frey, the sacred twins. Associated with spring, summer and the fertile earth, Freyja departed the earth during autumn and winter and her leaving caused the leaves to fall and the earth to mourn her in a cloak of snow.

Ehwaz corresponds to the first pagan festival of spring, Spring Equinox, along wit Teiwaz and Berkana. Berkana is the Earthmother, Teiwaz the Skyfather and Ehwaz the newborn life. Rituals for this sabbat could be constructed along these lines.
