The Rune Poem - Verse XXII
Ing was first seen to move amongst to East Danes,
Then east he went across the waves,
his wagon followed behind,
and the warriors named him so.

Runic Number: 22

Letter: ng

Old English Name: ing

Meaning: Fertility, New Beginnings, Love and Harmony

Element(s): Earth & Water

Zodiac Sign: Taurus and Gemini

Gemstone: amber

Colour: yellow

Introduction

Ing is the Anglo-Saxon god of fertility. He journeyed to Jutland and united the Viking people there. In the northeast of England, kings claimed to be descendants of Ing.

Interpretation

Upright.
Birth, love and harmony are all aspects of this rune. Again the idea of birth goes beyond the physical to encompass all new beginnings - the successful completion of another cycle of life.

It signals a fertile period for the mind, body and spirit. A very positive rune.

Inverted.
This symbol cannot be inverted.

OK SO THAT BRINGS US UP TO WHERE I SKIPPED LOL

Here's a picture of Ingwaz. The Little Giant Encyclopedia of Runes states that it is depicted as a diamond:

Ingaz is the Rune of Fro Ing (also called Frey, chief amongst the Vanir), & of the Vanir Folk in general (the Vanir are generally the Gods & Goddesses of Earth & Water; of fertility & prosperity). He is the Earth God, the Green Man. Since he is often seen as inseperable (sometimes indistinguishable) from his twin sister Freya, it can also be used to symbolize her.

Ingaz represents prosperity. This Rune makes me think of the bountiful Thanksgiving or Christmas table, with a large turkey & all the other good food (more than could possibly be consumed at one meal), & family & friends gathered for the feast. It has that kind of 'feel' about it. It is a Rune of the Earth, of her bounty & riches, & symbolizes fertility.

Ingaz can represent a seed (the Rune Jera ('harvest') is the seed 'broken open'). In a reading, this may indicate that it's time to 'plant' or 'invest'; that is, plan for the future.

Ingaz is also a gateway. What lies on the other side is your ideal world; the world as you would make it, if you could. This speaks of trying to bring as much of this world into reality as possible.

What a beautiful description!
I agree totally!

I really like this rune, have always been drawn to it, because I like the finer things in life (although Im not a snob!) and always daydreaming!

I like this too!!
You both have just given me a new way to describe this rune ~ thank you!

To me it has always been a positive rune of fertility, bounty, growth, health, prosperity, productivity, happiness, balance and the elements.
It starts to talk about what Othilia finishes, our connection with the land and the elements around us, our guides, dreams, and our ideals ~ what we really want out of life.
& lets us know that we have a great life already! & that we are all we wish to be we just have to look within ourselves and to our connection with the gods.
