How many of you get emails from people unsolicited? And start to get po'd about it?

I have this "Friend" who consistantly sends me mailings about political conspiracy theories, chain mails, internet hoaxes, and the like.

Several times in the past, I have asked her to NOT do this. She hasn't listened.

She has about 50 names on a mailing list, and spends a good portion of each day mailing them (and I'm included) all of this b.s. I've asked her several times, to email me only personal messages, friend to friend stuff, One on One stuff. And yet, I consistantly receive crap in my email box that I didn't want, or ask for.

I've even received mass replies from several people on her mailing list in the past. AND her "mailing list" is something she calls a "Network". What is a Network? The term NET WORK implies a group of people, doing work together. No?

So...when I received two email hoaxes, and one totally unfounded, irreliable, unfactual article in my email box in the last two days, I responded "REPLY ALL" to her mailing list, as has been done by many of HER friends and acquaintances on the mailing list in the past, several times.

Got a very nasty email from this "Friend" in response telling me to cease and desist replying to her "mailing list" as it is her personal mailing system. If it's so personal..then why doesn't she "BCC" the addresses? And how come I've gotten mass emailings from her, and other people on her list?

Seems to me, that what she's really pissed off about is the fact that someone actually disagreed with her, and perhaps even made her look like an idiot, though I tried my best to point out the fact that it was "Surely, just an oversight by the author"..etc..

So..now she's all pissed off at me..when in my opinion...she intruded MY email box with information that was entirely unsolicited, and in addition, geared to adding my name to a bunch of harvesting lists, etc.

UGH! ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I know how you feel, Danus. Used to send out a *few* things to some friends, but they they got totally pissed at me and told me to stop sending them stuff...so I did. I'm okay with that. But then they turned back around and sent me all this crap (to BOTH my e-mail accounts)
So when I asked them to stop sending me stuff (that I would recieve the exact same thing 3 times)...2 of them did stop sending me things, where as the one who asked me to stop sending *her* stuff is still sending me CRAP! (I just delete it now...why bother reading it, I've already seen all of it anyway)

I send it back with a complete explanation of why it was so dumb. Usually the response begins with "have you ever seen http://www.snopes.com/ ?"..

I feel for ya, Danus. **Hugs** I had to ask my ex not to send jokes to my work address because of the. . . umm, questionable. . . content, and I got my butt chewed for it.

Anyway. . . is she sending this stuff from work, or from home? If from home. . . just send to abuse@her_isp.com. If from work, send a transcript of her E-mails to you to the director of her company's human resources department. . . and let them deal with it. :p

Heh myst, that's what I did..kinda. I just replied...

"This hoax has been explained on www.snopes.com, and hoaxbusters.ciac.org many times before. It is used to....yadda yadda yadda".

And per the article, I gave links to other articles by this source to prove how completely biased and outrageous the source was.

Phoenix, I don't want to do that to her, yet..but she's agreed to remove me from her lists now. I'm just upset that she would get mad at me for doing what I did. ugh. Pride.

OOOh, I would love to get hoaxes and government conspiracies! Instead, I have two friends who constantly send me things about how wonderful God's blessings are with cutsie little anectdotes and Bible scriptures to prove this point. It's all gushy and mushy and there are usually graphics of kittens and butterflies and roses. -- ICK!

I send jokes but respect when people ask me not to I try to only send ones that I know they will like so not all the good ones I get I send to each person that I think needs a smile.

*smiles* Well sounds like you've worked it out with her Danu.
Another recommendation is, if this person is only a "friend" and nobody you actually talk to on a regular basis, just put a block or filter on her email address and anyone else on her list.

 I hate it when people get ahold of your email address (and you gave it to them because you thought they would write) and then do nothing but send you stupid forwards without even a "hey, how're you doing" note attached.

It's rude.

Glad I’m not the only one who gets those. But if you have PSP (or something to edit graphics on) and normally a *very* basic knowledge of HTML. You can have a lot of fun making a little page to email them. :)

I get all kinds of that forwarded junk, and the government hoaxes, and the cutesy stuff ((((ick)))) I have a very active delete button. It doesn't bother me - I just figure that, in some small way, the person is thinking about me!! What they're thinking - now that's another topic!! ;)

Hi Danastouch.

I'm glad you resolved your e-mail bombardment. It is too bad that your friend couldn't understand that you chose a course of action based on his/her inaction to your request. It's also sad that tension arose over something that should have very simple to solve.

I get forwards every once in awhile from various friends. I usually only send those on to other friends who I think might find some enjoyment out of whatever it is. However, recently I've started receiving some pretty silly forwards from someone I don't even know. I'm pretty sure she has my email account mixed up with one of her friends email addresses since many forwards are those lovely chain letters about how wonderful a friend you are....unless, of course, you don't this out to 40 other people, because if you just delete it, then you're cold-hearted. I have yet to understand how those types of chain letters are supposed to make me feel all warm and fuzzy that someone thought of me.

Someone in my circle of business acquaintance sent me a slide show of nekked men...to my job! *My hair stands on end as I write*.
HUGE YIKES....and I had to (as in yes, anything like that sets off alarms in our IS Dept) go to my supervisor and then the Dept Head to explain this was unsolisited and I knew it was evil and wrong to have really, really (!) naked men sent to me at work. Unreal. :bug:

Not only that, but I had to send a security alert email to this idiot, explaining our corporate policy, also explaining they were now blocked from emailing me at work. HOW HUMILIATING AND IT PUT MY JOB ON THE LINE :(.

My company has zero tolerance for non-business goofy stuff. So please, be careful whatever you send to a business email...the job you save maybe your friend's.

Good point, Materra. However, I don't work, and she's an author at her own home. So neither of us have anything to worry about in that department. Basically, with her, it was all a matter of pride. She simply couldn't admit she'd made mistakes, in front of her friends, and so got very frustrated with me when I pointed them out (by pointing her to snopes.com, and to the errors in the source of the article she fowarded). Bah. Pride is such a stupid thing. Since when did having to learn something mean you were stupid? I always thought being willing to learn something, was wisdom...

That...and listening to your friends when they say..."Stop emailing me stupid crap, ya tard! ".
