View Full Version : Am I interpreting this right?

I posted this to another forum, but even though I've been there longer than I've been here, I rather respect the opinions of this tarot group a little more. So I wanted to run it by you guys, too.
I did a three card drawing last night to determine how the situation with myself and one of my ex's might be developing (we recently began talking again), or what I need to be thinking about in terms of it. I didn't use any positional meanings for the three spots. I merely drew cards and wanted to see how they related together. I received:
(with Robin Wood deck)
1.) 2 of Pentacles
2.) Temperance
3.) King of Swords
I'm having trouble interpreting the three together. I get the impression that I'm being told to be careful about taking on too much that might distract me from my responsibilities. That I need to be adaptable but also be aware that getting into too many things wouldn't do well for me right now.
But I'm not quite sure. Opinions/assistance?

First off do you have any automatic reactions to the cards? That for me is an important clue to reading for someone else, though reading for myself I keep the cards laid out until the situation has come to pass and then go back through them to see what they could possibly mean together.
Without seeing any images it is difficult to do it easily, but perhaps the first two taken together represent a situation which is in flux, which is beginning to crystallise but needs the energies of a strong, decisive arbiter to bring it to a conclusion?

Actually, my first reaction to the cards was to notice how they keep showing up. The King of Swords has been in almost every reading I've done concerning this person. Temperance just keeps showing up places for all kind of things, and it's also my year card for '07.
Initially I was relating the two of pentacles as juggling my various responsibilities. I'm not sure if that's something I was getting because of the card imagery (which is a young girl holding two pentacles while walking a tight rope) or because I was struck by it as a potential meaning. Overall, I felt like the reading itself was very benign. I mean, even though I made that connections to the 2 of Pentacles, I didn't feel like it was telling me I was in fear of becoming out of balance. Just that I needed to keep an eye on things like that.
Your interpretation did feel like it made sense to me. The idea of being in flux, most certainly.
And if you need images, I'll be glad to send you pictures from the deck I used once I'm home.

Hope you don't mind if I chime in here.. but it seems to me like there's some issues going on involving balance. Both the Two of Pentacles and the Temperance card to me strongly speak of balance issues - either something in your life may be out of balance, or you may need to balance something in your life before you can move forward with your relationship with your ex. I'm not sure what exactly your question was or what your relationship with your ex is- but hopefully this might help.
The King of Swords could represent your ex - or he could represent the qualities you need to bring about the balance you need.
Anyway - just a thought. :)

My first thought is that you might need to let go of something in order to keep balance. That something might be your relationship with your ex, but I think it's more likely that it refers to the idea that your relationship has to be one thing or another. Like HedwigHarfang suggested, you might need to just settle in to a period of things being...unsettled between the two of you. No matter what happens, though, I'm getting the sense that you need to be completely true to yourself - to your beliefs and truths and personal integrity. Don't make any decisions or changes based on what might be easier or more comfortable or what you think "ought to" make you grow as a person. Just do what you know to be right, and you'll be just dandy.

There could be problems in the future with regards to this relationship. Do not become easily swayed with your heart and take heed of being taken advantage of or emotionally manipulated in any way.

King of Swords tells me that you have to cut through the, er ... nonsense and really focus on the heart of the matter.
Temperence says to approach things in an even-handed, level-headed way, making careful consideration of your actions.
Two of Pentacles reinforces the importance of maintaining balance in the situation.
Don't let the dreams of what you wanted the relationship to be overwhelm your reason.
There is a reason that exes become exes, after all.
You didn't say ... were any of these reversals?

No, there were no reversals in this spread. Just those three upright cards.
Actually, my choice to break us up was an impulsive, largely irrational thing for me to do. I'm a huge self-doubter with issues about commitment. If I'd received a reading like this back then, I probably would've thought twice before leaving him, as there was nothing legitamately wrong with our situation.

You might not like hearing this, but get yourself right before you try to involve anybody else in your life.

I'm well aware of my personal foibles, thank you.
