As promised, here's the sample reading using the Many-Layered X spread that I posted a few days ago.

This is using the Mystic Faerie Tarot, my current preferred reading deck.

The cards:

Ten of Swords ------------------------------Knight of Swords
--------Six of Wands------------------King of Cups-----------
--------------Four of Pentacles----The Priestess-------------
----------------------Nine of Wands--------------------------
--------------Two of Cups---------Ten of Pentacles----------
--------Nine of Pentacles---------------Five of Cups---------
Ten of Cups-----------------------------------Knight of Wands

Now, the first thing that I look at is card 13, which is the heart, the situation, the problem, or the focus of the reading. This spread is GREAT for readings where you don't know what to focus on because it provides so much depth and detail.

Here is the Nine of Wands. In this deck, we see a young boy tending a dragon. Dragons are not easy things to tend to! This card is about accepting the consequences, good or bad, of our actions. This seems to indicate that to focus is on the results of a past action, that someone is feeling the effects of something that they did, for good or for bad.

Because the situation is the result of past actions, a reaction to action of sorts, it's especially important to the sequence of cards that indicate the past. These are the Ten of Swords, the Six of Wands, the Four of Pentacles, the Ten of Cups, the Nine of Pentacles, and the Two of Cups. I pair these up, and also read them as a whole.

The first pairing is the Ten of Swords and the Ten of Cups. These cards are a study in contrasts. In the Ten of Cups we see the highs of a relationship that has survived the test of time, and in the Ten of Swords we see the lowest of lows of despair and betrayal. My first thought would be an affair of some sort, or some other sort of serious deception in a relationship.

The second pairing here is the Six of Wands and the Nine of Pentacles. If we look at the spread as a progression of time from left to right, this would be the period following the first pairing. This could be days, months, or even years. The time span would be indicated by when certain events actually did occur in the persons past. Here we see a sense of victory, either earned or taken, and the contented rest after great accomplishment. This may indicate a great deal of work to move past the betrayal indicated by the first pairing, and the peace that comes with that work.

The third pairing makes it even clearer. The Four of Pentacles and the Two of Cups to me indicate a person who finally decided to be just a bit selfish. Often the Four of Pentacles is seen as a greedy card, but in this deck, it shows a fae who is making baskets to store the harvest that she has worked very hard on. She has EARNED those pentacles. The Two of Cups indicates, of course, new love, or some other very strong, new relationship. Since this is the recent past, I'd say that the querent has recently started taking care of themself in a way that they didn't before, and that someone has noticed them, and a new relationship is blooming.

The next step is to look at the cards of the future: The Knight of Swords, the King of Cups, The Priestess, the Ten of Pentacles, the Five of Cups, and the Knight of Wands. Again, this is done in pairs.

The first future pairing, The Priestess and the Ten of Pentacles, indicates a coming time of deep self-reflection, and the bounty that comes from such self-reflection. Coming soon is a time to get to know yourself and reap the rewards that will come from a deeper understanding of your own desires and motivations.

The second future pairing is the King of Cups and the Five of Cups. Here we see possible upcoming troubles in the relationship that was seen previously. Have the lessons of the far past, of the betrayal, been truly learned? Any relationships will falter if they haven't, and so this is perhaps a warning to heed the past, heal from the past, and don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

The third future pairing is the Knight of Swords and the Knight of Wands. If the lessons of the past are not learned, as the previous pairing seems to be warning about, it seems that there will be the butting of two very head-strong people. The Knight of Swords likes control, though has not yet earned that, and the Knight of Wands just can't sit still. Go, go, go, go, and get on everybody's nerves if not kept in check! Knights are the reckless impulsive ones of their suits, and their energy is often unchecked. Two of them together may be a metaphorical train wreck!!!

Next, I look at What's on your mind. This is found in the Ten of Swords, the Six of Wands, the Four of Pentacles, the Priestess, the King of Cups, and the Knight of Swords. These are read not in pairings, but in triplets, sets of three cards. It's important to read these independently of how they were read before. They are likely meaning different things as the 'position' meanings have now changed.

The first triplet is the Ten of Swords, the Six of Wands, and the Four of Pentacles. Looking at this triplet, I get the sense of some sort of betrayal that led to a hollow victory, and unearned bounty. Someone did something they weren't supposed to and benefited from it. Was it you? Or were you the victim? Either way, this is one thing weighing heavily on your mind right now.

The second triplet is the Priestess, the King of Cups, and the Knight of Swords. My first thoughts at this particular triplet is of a step-family. A mother delving deep into herself to figure out how to deal with her husband and her son (or step-son) and how to make what may be a difficult relationship at least livable. I don't normally see the Priestess as a mother, but for some reason, she strikes me as one right now.

Next is How are you feeling. This is depicted by the Ten of Cups, the Nine of Pentacles, the Two of Cups, the Ten of Pentacles, the Five of Cups, and the Knight of Wands. Again, this is read in triplets.

First triplet is the Ten of Cups, the Nine of Pentacles, and the Two of Cups. All I can really say here is WOW! Boy are you feeling content about your love life! And that contentment is spilling out everywhere in your life!

The second triplet is the Ten of Pentacles, the Five of Cups, and the Knight of Wands. This triplet conflicts with the first, but our emotions and feelings are often very confusing. While the first triplet indicated contentment, here I see a bit of mixed feelings. Perhaps one area of life is intruding on another (work on family or family on work, etc) and this is causing some tension to build up.

Next, I read the ripples. The is how the situation affects you and others around you. The ripples are like throwing a pebble into a pond, one after another the ripples move out bigger and bigger.

First, the situation, the Nine of Wands, was one not of action but of REACTION to a previous situation. But in every reaction there is another ACTION, which will cause more RE-ACTIONS. When viewed this way, you can look to see if your reaction to the previous situation is appropriate and will have positive effects, or if you need to do damage control before you make things worse!!!

The first ripple is the Four of Pentacles, the Priestess, the Ten of Pentacles, and the Two of Cups. I get the sense here that the first reaction to the reaction will be one of self-preservation and healing. Gathering your resources, whether physical, emotional, or friends/lovers/family, so that you are prepared for whatever may happen in the future. This is actually a fairly good reaction, as having resources ready to deal with the future is never a bad thing!

The second ripple is the Six of Wands, the King of Cups, the Five of Cups, and the Nine of Pentacles. I get the sense here that the first trouble will show up in this ripple, but it won't be anything you can't deal with. Because the first ripple was one of preparation, you will be able to handle anything that is thrown at you.

In the third ripple, The Ten of Swords, the Knight of Swords, the Knight of Wands, and the Ten of Cups, we see what may be the final action in this series of actions and reactions. It seems that this situation may have been going on for quite some time, and that it will be coming to a head very, very soon. There will be a great deal of pain as the fallout from the situation occurs, but with perseverance (Knight of Wands) and a cool head (Knight of Swords) peace can prevail.

Next, you read the 'arms' The Left Arm is those things that you can't control, and here is the Ten of Swords, the Six of Wands, the Four of Pentacles, the Ten of Pentacles, the Five of Cups, and the Knight of Wands.

The Right Arm is those things that you CAN control or change, and they are the Knight of Swords, the King of Cups, the High Priestess, the Two of Cups, the Nine of Pentacles, and the Ten of Cups.

I'll leave the Arms for YOU to ponder, analyze and interpret :D

Comments anyone??
