I know that there has been a lot of talk of whether or not a persons magickal name should be revealed to any but the Dietes. But since I have chosen to have a magickal name and not to reveal it, I was wondering exactly HOW I choose one. If anybody could help me I'd be happy. Thanx and blessed be.

Usually we choose names that appeal to us, names of animals or gemstones or whatever suits. You might also go into meditation or ask the Gods to help you find your name.

I thought about it a long time and tried different combinations of names that I liked, but I couldn't actually pick a magical name. Finally, as Myst suggested, I meditated and asked what my name should be. I was surprised when I got an immediate answer. I hadn't even thought of that particular one before, but it is a name connected with my Matron. It was a lovely experience, and I would recommend meditation also.

A baby name book is a good way to see what's out there too. For example, I have Celtic Names for Children by Loreto Todd. That would be good for someone who was looking for a magical name and worshipped the Celtic pantheon.

There is also the Complete Book of Magical Names by Pheonix MacFarland.

First think about what kind of person you are. Then contemplate different deities, herbs, spices, animals or anything else that strikes your fancy and relates to your personality. Use one or several of them combined for your name. It's just a suggestion, but it worked for me.

What I did for my name, is I picked something I hold dear, or I enjoy, and kinof make a name out of it.

I was acutally reading a text book ( "Artchtypes of Philosophy" by Doug Soccio). I saw the word and said "Hey, that's me!" before I even knew what it meant! Werid stuff, but I'm more than satisfied with it! Strangely, my friend Ty had the same thing happen to him!

Silver Alhena IS actually my magical name.

I did originally have Silver Athena, but then discovered that Alhena is the name of one of the stars in Gemini, and it seemed to fit me better.

I know some people prefer their magical name to be known only to the powers that be, but I reckon they have a name for me that only they know...besides, I like my magical name, and don't see why it shouldn't be used publically. Each to their own and all...
