What about spiced apple?

I think spiced apple would work. Needs to be incense I can put on a charcoal, not sure the pectin will burn properly? or does it burn/smell like incense?

I have no idea if pectin can burn properly.

I found this site that has Spiced Apple Incense Powder:

I don't think pectin will smell like apples, it is the soluable fiber that is in apples, and people use it as a fiber supplement, but it doesn't taste like apples once it's been processed.

maybe you could experiment first with dry apple cider mix. They sell it here in the fall, just add water...so it's a powder. I expect you'd get a lot of "burned sugar" scent as well, because it is high in sugar.

Maybe you could get some apple wood chips, some places sell them to add to the barbacue because they add flavor, or you could ask an apple tree to donate a branch, there is still time to dry it out.

Sometimes fruit trees leak sap which can be collected on the bark. If you have an apple orchard handy, you could check for that. I'm not sure how it smells, but it would definitely qualify as apple incense.

What about those dried apple pieces you find in potpourri? I wonder if those would burn to give off more or less the scent you're looking for...

I'm wondering what would happen if you took a quart or two of 100% apple juice, put it in a pan, and then let it evaporate in the oven on the lowest setting with the door open a bit. It would probably take several hours, but you could take the left over residue, grind it up in either a mortar or a spare coffee grinder and voila! apple incense.

Just an idea of course. Hmmm, I might have to try this out.

If ya can get it in cones, why not just grind some up?

curious- what is the problem with green apple?

I can't really help, don't use loose incense, but if by chance stick incense becomes an option, Wildberry and Auric Blends both make some that could possibly work, since you said spiced apple was ok- Simmering Cider by Wildberry smells like it sounds, and Fire Goddess by Auric Blends is someowhat more of a cinnamon scent than an apple scent, but it has a very definite apple element to it.

loose incense that one burns on charcoal burns differently than the stuff you light on fire and then blow out the flame. Not sure how grinding up a cone and tossing it on a charcoal tablet would work out...never tried it

Is there a reason why it has to be incense?

If you just wanted something to produce the scent other things would work--

There are tons of scented candles out there--from fancy to cheap. I can't use any of them because of allergies, but I know there're out there. Apples are a popular scent around this time (autumn) and you'll probably find some in the stores. Or online.

Also again, if it's just for the scent and ambiance there are glade scented air puffer/freshner things.
They have:
Apple Cinnamon (http://www.glade.com/fragfinder.aspx?fragrance=spicy#s_apple) --this one is avalible in many formats
Creamy Custard™ & Blushing Apple™ (http://www.glade.com/fragfinder.aspx?fragrance=spicy#s_custard) (only in candle)

Yeah...that's all I got.

There might be more options for apple incense closer to Thanksgiving time.

I just really don't like green apple. :weirdsmil And I just find it curious that regular, or apple blossom is so hard to find.

Thanks for all the suggestions will probably go with spicy apple loose and if I don't like that I may do a completely different blend.

(and it does have to be incense, it's part f the charging section of the ritual)

I dunno... I've often burned cone incense on a charcoal. It just turns to ash from the bottom up instead of from the top down... :hehehehe:

Have you ever tried to make your own ? You can get regular apple essential oil and add it to something like a bamba wood base (bamboo) and burn that on charcoal. You can also make your own loose incense or cones as well. Another thought would be to dehydrate some thin apple slices and burn them on the charcoal.

Walmart has the cinnamon - apple liquid that you can put in a candle or electric burner. $1.00, bottle.
