I have a question that i've been pondering..
is it possible to gain or lose positive or negative energy? is it possible to overload on energy? and if so what happens? i need some clarification on what energy is because i have an idea but im not sure if i'm right. :weirdsmil

Over loading on energy is more then possible. It feels about the same has 10 cups of coffee in an hour period :P
As for the negative or positive....energy is energy. The only "polarity" it has is the one that is given by human emotions. And if those emotions are strong enough, that "polarity" can stick tot eh energy for decades or even centuries. Especially if it's an on going thing, like ritual done by the same group at the same site year after year.
If you encounter a "contaminated" area, you can even set about to clean the energy there and let it go back to it's natural state, or you could charge it with your own "polarity" and so on.
Now what energy is.....is life. Actually, it's existence, since a stone has energy, but many don't consider it alive per se. You HAVE energy inside you and there is tons in the world all around you every day. In most cases all that flowing energy moves in and out, regulating itself just fine. But every now and then something goes wrong. This could be due to someone having a marked sensitivity, a traumatic event, beginning to consciously open/manipulate energy or some other factor, in which case the energy gets out of whack.
Don't worry, you won't ever be drained totally, unless your dead, but even then your soul energy is still very much present as you move to the after life and what lays beyond that.
Hopefully, my ramblings have helped, rather then rendered your brains into mushy peas :P
If you have any comments or questions, please speak up. It's all good :)

Ok, doing best to answer esoteric question before morning coffee.
Energy is existence, that's a fabulous explaination. (writes that one down to contemplate after coffee.)
Energy is not the blue or white light or tingling sensation or humming sound we see/feel/hear when we make magic or meditate or visualize. That is how we experience energy, how it manifests, but it is not the energy itself. Energy is Consciousness. Not the ego or persona, and not mind-chatter, but the awareness of it all. If it can be observed, it's ego. Consciousness is what does the observing. Our time on earth is Consciousness observing itself.
I'm sorry man, but I really need to have my coffee now before answering with any more clarity, because right now my consciousness is really still snoozing.

could it be said that since consciousness is energy....
that conscious thoughts create physical experiences, circumstances, and situations?????????????????
and so positive thoughts create a positive reality?

I would say that positive thought creates repetitiveness toward a positive reality. It's not that your life will be peachy, it's just a matter of putting things in perspective and deciding what to put your time/energy into. Bad things still happen to good people, no matter how positive their thoughts/attitude is.

Nothing is inherently good or bad, its all in how you go about accepting it. So yes, consistent positive thinking yields a consistently positive world.
Btw, captainxawful, oftentimes energy overload manifests in a horrible reaction headache, in answer to your earlier question.

I need at least two before I can cope. My mother bought me a 1-person cafetiere just before I moved out (I don't know why, probably to try and get me to stay at home...I took it with me when I left her!) and it has fuelled most of our wanderings around these forums. M prefers tea.

I agree, but there are different qualities to energy, particularly when it concerns atmosphere. Entering a room where people are happy and content has a very different quality to it than when you enter a room where people are miserable but trying to put a brave face on it. Having been to party conferences where thousands of people have been happy and hopeful subconsciously, and then to one when the same numbers of people were apprehensive, sullen, disappointed or fearful, even the weather took note of the human vibrations given off. Now that is what I call energy resonance!

Wait, so you're telling me this is a bad thing?!
All right, just kidding, but I am a bit of a caffine addict, so I have experienced that...
And I really liked everyones explainations here. Better that I could probably come up with right now, so I will just leave it at that.

It's definitely possible to overload on energy - it happens to me quite often, and when it does, I feel very jittery and tense and restless. I usually have to go for a run, or just generally bounce around for a couple of hours before the feeling goes away.

Hehehe :) I am too. And for the first little bit, it's fun even productive, then it's just EXHAUSTING with an annoying amount of recovery time.

Oh no lies... my family went on a cruise over Christmas break last year, and they insisted on it being a drug free two weeks... They didn't smoke or drink, and I wasn't allowed a drop of caffine... The first two days I was like, non functioning... it was terrible... the entire time I had a headache and felt sick, but those first days, I was cowering on my bed the entire time sweating and feeling horrible... Caffine withdrawl equals the worst thing in the world... My mom has talked about sending me to a drug rehab clinic for it... it is that bad...

I knew of someone who got very painful and dangerous kidney stones from too much caffeen. He was actually hospitalized for a long time. We laugh about it. But it really is a drug. Like they say, everything in moderation....

That happened to my sister. And because of incompitent (sp) doctors she ended up with a kidney infection and pnemonia, and almost died.

I hear you there. Periodically, I detox, so no caffeine. But I always make sure it's done in a three day stretch were I don't have to go to work or be around anyone. it's just safer that way :P
