ok i've had a strange day today......I broke 2 eletrical appliances... first i was vacuuming and for no reason it just quit on me...i checked the outlet it was fine. I plugged the cord into a different outlet and nothing....then hubby was using his brand new table saw and I went to hold the end of the board and it quit the same way....has anybody heard of this? Do I have an abundance of energy (or not enough?) or does it just sound like a coincidence?.
It's freaking me out...i'm afraid to touch anything...so far the computer is fine!!

Rubi, I've had this happen to me too. I usually find that the occurences coincide with my time of the month. When I was a teenager, things might go off when I touched them but sometimes, things would come on too when I just walked into a room. I don't have an explanation for why but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I'll be curious to hear if they start working again.

Also, I'm wondering if both outlets you tried to plug the vacuum into were on the same breaker or even near each other. Sometimes when wiring is going bad in a house rooms or strings of outlets wired together will flake out for a time and then come back on again. You might check the walls around those outlets to see if they are hot when you know they are working.

Unless you're shutting down EVERYTHING it's probably a coincidence, IMHO. There's no reason those two particular things should've been affected unless they are, as Mithrea said, on the same wiring, and then it's likely the wiring at fault.

Hmmmmm....electrical stuff seems to go haywire in my house when there is a lot of stress in the home. When John and I argue, for instance, inevitably, there is either a problem with the computer, or the TV.

One time, he was trying to give me a driving lesson, and he asked me to do something I didn't feel ready to do, and I was really getting upset and frustrated with him, and I stepped on the gas and the brake at the same time (or something), and we heard a pop. I don't remember exactly what it did...but it basically, broke the car. (no kidding. Ask him. He'll tell you. I'm just a dolt when it comes to mechanics, so can't explain what happened. He'll tell you though!).

well thanks for everyones opinion...I was hoping it was just coincidence. Danus it has been a stressful few weeks in the house so maybe it had something to do with it. btw the outlets were on different breakers & the wiring was just updated in the house (supposedly) I just thought it was a strange happening!!! and no neither item works yet.

I have this thing with electronics, computers in particular.

If it's mine or I've bonded with it, It'll run better than it's supposed to be able to (at least in some aspects).

If it's someone else's, or I'm just using it for a moment. . . boom. Bye bye. Stops working until I'm gone, doesn't work correctly, runs horribly, etc.

I really don't know what it is! hehe I use my uncle's computer maybe once a year. . . just to check my e-mail. . . and it'll bring up warnings calling for the OS to be reinstalled. Sheesh! I didn't do anything!. . . :D;;

my Mom and both sisters have that happen with electronics. I've heard of cases being very bad with those, but mostly my family just makes comptuers go berzerk, blow out fresh light bulbs...the whole 9 yards. lol

Its mostly, with them anyway, a problem with having lots of..umm....I don't know how to describe it. When my sister gets mad, thats when all of us start yelling "don't touch the light switches!"

I think its having lots of energy around you.

Well..I am Aradia's sister, one of them anyway. I am the one who, when mad, everyone yells not to touch the light switches. :) Our mother is the same way. She has been since she was a teenager, same with me. Only explanation we have found it poltergeists. Just human energy that makes things go berzerk. It only happens when I am extrememly upset or mad. Though the other day some lights that were thought to be broke came on when I touched them. *shrugs* I woudln't worry about it..its just energy :)
