Alessa's pediatrician appointment today went well. Her jaundice is mild enough still that her doctor isn't worried about it, and since she's having plenty of wet and dirty diapers, she expects it will probably be completely gone by the end of the week. She thinks that the only reason it's still there is because it tends to peak at around 3 days old and now she's only 5 days old.

She lost 8% of her body weight in the hospital by the second night after her birth (Thursday). She was only a day old. So they were worried about what her weight would be when I left the hospital because they don't allow for more than a 10% loss. Thankfully, when she was weighed the night before I was discharged (Friday), it turned out she didn't lose any weight at all that whole day and actually gained 1/3 oz:

Wednesday at birth (11:59 AM): 6 lbs. 8.9 oz.
Wednesday night: 6 lbs. 6 oz.
Thursday night: 6 lbs. 1.3 oz.
Friday night: 6 lbs. 1.6 oz.

Today at the pediatrician's office she weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.! She gained over 6 oz over the weekend! Her doctor was mazed at her weight gain because they don't usually get that close to their birth weight until they're 2 weeks old. :D

OMG... She is a cutie! And SO tiny! Awww, I remember when Scarlet was that tiny... *sniffles*.. Only 6 weeks and she got SO big SO fast..

Damn, Alessa has so much hair! I love it! WooHoo to babies with a head full of hair *high five*

She is adorable! Glad to hear she is doing better with her weight! Scarlet had a similar drop in weight, but then she magically gained twice as much back!

Now she is just a big beastlette! LOL

Thanks, everyone. She's so tiny and precious. :)

I was worried about how well she was sucking because she almost never empties my breasts when nursing, even though I only give her one at a time now to make sure she gets enough hindmilk. I guess I just produce a freakishly large amount of milk.

The pain in my right breast (the one with all the blisters) was all but gone by this morning and it looked as though the blisters were almost completely healed. Because of her weight gain and the fact that the pain was gone (except for a tiny amount of discomfort right at latch on which I consider normal the first week or so), and since I've been paying careful attention and could find nothing wrong with her latch anymore, I assumed her latch issues were dealt with. But just 20 minutes ago, when she ended her last nursing session, I noticed I now have a blood blister on my nipple.

*...sighs...*

I felt no pain all during our nursing session so was shocked to see it.

I can't believe *I* am giving *YOU* advice, since you're much more experienced than me in the nursing thing... but... I suggest giving that boob a break or calling your doctor for an ointment to heal that -- Otherwise you might end up with what I had -- And that SUCKED.

Now for me, I had no problem with stopping nursing, but I know it is important to you... So from experience -- Do what I never did, catch it early and treat it early!

I hope it all works out! *hugs*

awwwww!! She is sooo cute! Makes me wish this pregnancy was over with so I can hold my baby, but I also dont want it to end, cause I know it is my last one!

Yay for not hurting with feeding anymore! :) And glad she's gaining all the weight she needs to :D

I know what you mean, Kaida. I'm so happy she's here but I'm a little sad not to be pregnant anymore too.

Morr, thanks. The blood blister is gone now and everything's fine again. :)

We just got back from Alessa's 2 week checkup (though she's only really 12 days old today). She was 6'9 at birth, 19" long, with a 13" head circumference. She weighed 6'2 on discharge from the hospital at 3 days old, and at 5 days old weighed 6'8 in her ped's office. That was last Monday.

Today, she weighed in at 7'5, is now 20" long, and now has a 14" head. She gained 13 oz. in a week, and grew an inch in length and around her head! She's going to be a chunky monkey here soon! :D
