I think that scrying is interesting and i would like to learn how to do it. I am particularly interested in using mirrors for this. Could anyone tell me how? Help with other types of scrying would also be appreciated.

use a dark/black mirror-
draw your curtians, turn off you light or work at night time
cast a circle, call the elements,
use a dusky/ musky incence, and a purple, or white candle (that's what i use anyway - as always these things are down to personal preference)
sit cross legged, and hold the mirror so that you can see into it,
imagine a purple or white light raising through you chakra, really push it up until it reaches your third eye, when its there, turn it into a ball, push the light out of your third eye onto the dark mirror, the light should be tracing a pentogram, when you can see the pentogram properly on the mirror, stare into the centre whilst repeating the question in your mind, let your self go dont concentrate too hard and luckily once your used to this process you should receive your visions

you may also want to imagine some kind of bird protecting the circle

Other notes; it may take awhile to see anything (as in days, weeks, or months of practice), one would use white because it represents energy, divinity, and the moon (and thus mystery and intuition) or purple because it represents the same along with spirituality and magic, the incense mentioned probably was used because dusky/musky probably creates a feeling of darkness, mystery, and hidden things as well. Not sure why golddust chose a bird, tho a raven in particular is thought of a spiritual messenger so would be appropriate, or you can have your spirit guide there etc.
If you find colours or incense that you feel are more appropriate or make more sense use them instead. I would use a jasmine incense. Anise, ash, balsam, bay, mugwort, briar, damiana, elder, elfdock, ginger, black currant, marigold, rowan, tamarisk, vervain, and wormwood are also listed by Ann Moura as herbs for divination, psychic powers, etc.

yeah, i forgot to mention that alot of what i said was my own personal feelings, just do what feels right and it'll probably work
Myst- im not sure why i use a bird either, it's just something that happened when i first tried scrying- a fire bird circled me- freaked me out a little until i realised what it was there for,

It's kinda like looking into the depths of the mirror (or crystal ball, or bowl of water, etc), not at the surface... or a bit like trying to see one of those 'pictures within the dots'...

Myst et als, why can it take so long see anything? Doesn't complete concentration have a lot to do with it?

When scrying, you 'zone', or trance... for most people, it takes a little practice to get there, then a little more practice to maintain it for any lenght of time...
It can also often difficult to get 'into the zone' without the phone ringing... :T

music helps for some. all kinds, depends on what works best for
you. Drums help. Its a rythm thing. also, can just use a mirror
with nothing else. Look into the mirror, dont stare. Staring is a
strain. Observe the mirror with the question in mind. Like you
are speaking to it without words. Be comfortable. Move the mirror
around if it is reflecting something not condusive to your question
or meditation.

Thanks for the tips Rick and Flar7. I can see why Myst wrote that it takes a lot of practice. Obviously, what works for some people, just doesn't work for others. For example, I can see how certain types of music would relax me; however, I would find music with a drum beat to be disruptive to my thoughts.
Hey Rick, take the phone off the hook while you are scrying. :T

I have a CD that I use for meditation and ritual that I never thought would work because it's composed of very fast drum beats. It's called Rhythms of the Chakras by Glen Velez. I have had some incredible journeys while using this CD.
I've had a difficult time finding a place where I can get my mirror at the right height. The kitchen table seems to work best but I really don't like working in the kitchen. I believe that Rick suggested to me that scrying with a dark mirror can sometimes work better during daylight hours.

I think it's also that you have to train your reawaken that ability. I'm sure each of us could do any magical or divinatory thing if we can awake it. I guess each of us have our own things we can connect with easily.
I guess I also think it's like anything you learn to do; everything takes practice. I mean we can all paint pictures for example but any of us might find painting easy, or hard, or like to paint cartoons or portraits. I just wanted to point it out so if something doesn't come to a person right away, like divination, they know it can take time and practice. Magical skills rarely come to someone all the sudden :)

Hi there
I just would like to know:
Are the images seen on the mirror seen physically with ones eyes on the mirror or in the minds eye?

In my opinion, the images will come from your mind's eye and you see them with both the mind and the physical eye.

You stay away too long!!!
For me, the sensation is best described as like daydreaming... so, again for me, it's seen with the mind's eye, not my physical eyes... same for me when gazing into a crystal ball...
...and don't be such a stranger, Stranger! :T

Hi Rick, Im glad to be back.
Since they restricted our internet time at work, i have hardly had a chance to visit.
About scrying with a mirror, Ive heard some sources say that there should be light reflected in the mirror from a candle for instance while gazing.
Is this correct, wouldnt it be a bit of a distraction and what about ones own reflection.
How do i gaze without the above distractions?

Hi reiki friend :)
I use a candle and my reflection, I find that I can glaze over and see things through the candle and reflections, if that makes sense. I dont see thing every time, just when I need too, which makes it all the more special.
I guess all you have to do to make a start is get going! and then see if you find anything distracting and experiment with taking it away, adding a different light, breath, sound..

Just had a thought... don't know if this'll actually work, haven't tried it, but should work in theory... take a picture frame, & place a black (or dark) cloth behind the glass... might be worth a shot, anyway...
