chips and nicks

Me again....

When looking for "special" crystals What do you do about chips? I mean I have some that would be Isis or dow but they have a chip in the side of the face. Also what if a crystal has grown over the side of the face of another? What if it has the right number of sides on the face but it's rather distorted? Not very even. (I wish my son hadn't lost my camera so I could show you some of what I mean.) And I'm still not totally clear about the keys and pockets.

do you mean chips in the stone or chips of stones.?

Nicks, chips and unusual shapes make crystals unique and in many cases this is what gives them their character if they happened naturally. ...

Right amount of sides but not in the perfect shape does not detract from the energies but it will in most circumstances add a unique quality to the crystal.

Growth interference (crystals which have a deformed shape due to growing against or being obstructed by some other form of material) adds new properties to it.. check out growth interference in the quartz thread.....

Pocket crystals... 2 definitions...

1) any stone/crystal which is small enough and comfortable enough to carry around in your pocket.

2) Any stone or crystal which contains a depression or pocket in which a liquid or substance can be put for whatever reason.... these are rare in nature and very powerful.. manmade ones are used by many... such as Quartz bowls which are carved from solid masses of quartz.

A key crystal is a crystal which has an indentation of another crystal in it ... these indentations are six sided just like a quartz crystal. It basically looks like you took the base of a quartz crystal and somehow shoved it into the side or face of another crystal leaving the 6 sided impression of the base of the quartz crystal in the other crystal...

I think that answers them all.. if not just ask :)

I know I have mentioned it before in other threads but I feel compelled to add this on the subject of nicks and chips and other natural deformaties....


For too long people have been trying to supply "perfect" crystals to people in the metaphysical community. Crystals with natural characteristics have been ground and polished to get rid of these imperfections only to later discover that you have taken away the markings of a lightning strike.. or take away natural glyphs, or to remove blemishes. Perfection is an illusion at best and can easily turn into an unobtainable obsession ... by taking away natural markings from a crystal which is to be used for spiritual/metaphysical/healing purposes it is like performing a labotomy on it.... at least in my opinion. That doesnt mean there isn't room for items such as crystal balls, crystal carvings, polished crystals or other manipulated crystals... many people find many uses for these as do I... but one needs to understand that by manipulating crystals in such ways it many times takes away their uniqueness and/or personality.... not always a good thing.

OK.... pesty me again.
I read the part about growth interrupted crystals again. And I think I got the thing about "keys" and "pockets".

But, let me get this clear.... If I have say a dow, and all is good (as far as the right number of sides on the faces) but it has a chip out of one of the sides of the face, it's still a dow, but may act a little different?

I wish we could all have a "crystal party" and just talk about our coolest stones and get each other's opinion about them! :)

yes it's still a dow but maybe with a slightly different personality :)

as far as crystal party.. I have an idea about that but it's still in a planning stage ... very early planning stage!!! :p I'll talk to lightdragon about it when I get home.
