My daughter is not going out for Halloween for the first time this year, but she is dressing up to give out candy. She is going to be a geisha because I found the most gorgeous kimono at the second hand store last summer. Shje just finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha and almost didnt want to dress up as one anymore, but changed her mind by the time she finished the book ( I MUST read the book and find out why that is  )
My older son is going to be the Transformer Jazz and has been hard at work on making a costume out of duct tape, foam, cardboard and shin guards - I cant wait to see how it turns out. I think this is the first year he hasnt just told me what he wants to be and expected me to pull a costume out of my hat (usually two days before the big day!)
My youngest is 7 this year and was ona huge bird of prey kick about two months ago. He told the dentist he was going to be a bald eagle for halloween and she was so impressed, the idea has stuck even though he has moved on to animals of the African Savannah now  I bought him an eagle mask back in the summer and we already have a big black cloak in our dress ups so all we need to do to finish his costume is turn a pair of yellow rubber gloves into bird feet.
What is you kid going to be for halloween? Do you buy already made costumes or are you more adventuresome and make their costumes? Do you trick or treat or do you attend (or host) a party? Do you dress up yourself?

We usually buy all of the costume, but it's bits and piece of this and that to come up with a whole. This year, however, I made my own. I ALWAYS dress up. Both of my kids still trick or treat and we are also having a huge party.
My son will be a ninja, my daughter will be a vampire, I am a renaissance bar wench/pirate thing (it kept evolving as I was making it), and my husband is an evil court jester.

My oldest is going as Captain Jack Sparrow this year (he saw his uncle do it last year, and wants to be the same, lol!) We've found bits and pieces to assemble the outfit throughout the year, and it looks really great on him!
My youngest is going to be a dragon (complete with "roaring" noise when you squish the nose) My MIL bought it when she visited Baltimore earlier this year and thought it was perfect for him... it is.
I am going to be a pregnant rennaissance lady. Meh, it's all I could come up with!

My daughter was a Geisha a couple of years after she graduated and moved out of the house. We went to the same part and I didn't recognize her!
We still don't have our costumes figured out. I saw a homemade parrot costume that I love, but this year has been crazy and I haven't been able to figure out how to make up my own pattern for it. Maybe next year?
I saw a very simple Crayola costume that I think I could put together very quickly out of wide felt material. That's doesn't feel very "Halloween-ey" but I'm running out of time and energy.

I don't think we are dressing up, though I think we're going to go to Grandma & Grandpa's for the evening. My mom offered to make him a costume but so far only found toddler ones and I mentioned I wasn't planning to make a big deal of it this year since the baby is too young and might not tolerate it anyway.

my kiddos are dressing up. I Ebay-ed for my costumes.
my son is a giraffe and my daughter is a lady bug. got one suit for .50 and one for .99 plus like 4 bucks shipping each-
cant beat that!!
i'm not going as anything ... again- there were no "bigger people" outfits on ebay just 1/2 naked naughty nurses in the like..... not happening.
so we're going to my M/FIL house and MIL makes awsome chilie and we all sit around and BS about everything we've not talked about since x-mas (the last time everyone was together)
oh well- the kids have fun and the dog gets to go for a walk

we bought Sage's this year because it would have been more expensive to make a dragon costume than to buy one :)

Scarlet will be a pumpkin.
I will be a Renaissance wench.
Hubby a mad scientist.
We might take her around the block for a quick trick or treating adventure.
It is after all her first Halloween/Samhain and that is a big deal in our house.

We do a mix of buying and making in our house. This year I think we have finally nailed it down to the oldest being a witch again. She was able to find a dress and hat being sold at our community center for .50 cents. We were so grateful to the friendly shopper that decided to tell us about it as she watched us having to turn down dress after dress due to being too long.
Our middle child went from wanting to be a princess to being a cat. So I have to make a headband into cat ears.
Our youngest is going to be a clown this year. The costume was in with some clothes that were given to our daughters and it fits him perfectly. He has been dieing for Halloween to come for a few months now so he can wear it. lol
I will be doing their make-up for them. Last year our oldest was a goth witch, our middle daughter was a car accident victim..I did all the make-up and blood for her. And our youngest was supposed to be a vampire until my hubby got ahold of him. I turned around to see how his make-up came out and saw a little Insane Clown Posse look alike instead. lol
One year in Wisconsin, for our sons second Halloween, I went all out and made him a bat costume.
Down here we go out trick-or-treating and then come home to do our Samhain ritual. In Wisconsin the first Halloween for our son was way too cold, so I did a scavenger hunt with our girls instead. It was such a hit with them they asked to do it again the next year.

my youngest nephew has MS and is in a chair- last year I took him and a bunch more and they caused quite the commotion when a house was not wheelchair accesable. I felt terrible watching the homeowners faces as all the kids complained. Man- they got a lot of guilt candy! And I apologized everytime.

My youngest is going as a ghoulish zombie this year. The past 2 years he was a ninja and I finally talked him out of being a ninja yet again. My oldest was invited to a party, but says he isn't going...so if he changes his mind,we'll have to come up with a costume idea real quick.

My youngest is going as a dragon (it was my oldest's costume last year, but IC saw it while we were unpacking, and wanted to wear it), and my oldest is giong as a knight. I am going to wear a princess crown and I'm making a shirt with an arrow that points down to my (very big now) belly, that saw "Prince in Training". :D

Quintin is going as Superman and Cameron will be Baby Yoda. I got both costumes at Walmart....Quint did want to be a bat, but fell in love with the Superman Costume when he saw it. And baby Yoda.... I just laughed my ass off in the store when I tried the head piece on Cam, so I had to get it. I'm going as a Rennisance Peasant....something or other. I bought a peasant dress for Forestrangergrrl's wedding and then wasn't able to go, so I have to put it to use somehow.
Here's pictures of the boys in their costumes:

This (http://www.ltdcommodities.com/home/catalog/cat_item_pg.asp?G=485&P=413&Rec=2&N=37+20&Nao=150&R=16021) is what Toria is being. I found it in August and ordered it back then. She is soooo excited to be a princess riding a unicorn it isnt funny. I got major Mommy points for finding that one.

This year my daughter insisted on being a bunny, so I am sewing a bunny costume. Last year, when she wanted to be a sunflower, I bought the book "Illegally easy Halloween Costumes" by Leila Peltosaari
just for the sunflower pattern, so when the bunny request came, I found a bunny costume in there as well. I found fleece on sale for $8 a pound, so the total monetary cost to me, was under $12.00, and it's way cuter than what I found in stores for her...:abanana:
Hubby will wear his Demon mask I made many years ago for him, and I will go as a witch. Nice and simple for me. :spinnysmi

Brendan (age almost 4) decided to be a Ghost Robot this year LOL When we asked what that looked like he went into toddler detail about a robot costume and a ghost costume.... but never really combined the two.
DH tasked himself with creating it and did a great job. It's basically cardboard with silver foil and black tape. I think blinky lights will also be involved! I will put white make up on his face for the ghost part.
I will dress as little red riding hood and DH will be Death, himself. He wants to dress up to scare kids at the door, but honestly he looks freakin scary in the mask and hooded cap.

I'm not being anything this year, too busy preparing for ritual etc... but Midi is dressing up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (my MIL got the costume as a really cute joke, I was born in Ozborne Kansas lol). She's a bit to young for trick or treating and being on such a rural road (nearest house is about four blocks away!) I doubt we'll have any trick or treaters. But her playgroup is having a Halloween party on Thursday so she'll get to dress up for that and have lots of fun.

We found a spiderman costume at the thrift shop for the little one, I told her she will be "spidergirl" And her big sister is just going to wear her TaeKwanDo outfit from last year. They get to wear them for parties at school, and that may be all they get to do if we are as exhausted from being in court for a second full day on Wednesday. My daughter and I are both used to be able to get up and move around instead of just sitting all day long, and the courtroom was very chilly. Those are two things that aggravate the pain and ache of arthritis and fibromyalgia.

My 7 year old is going as Boba Fett, which is just a costume that we bought. My 3 year old wanted to be a tree. So I bought a plain XL brown t-shirt, and used saftey pins to attach some pine christmas garland to. He's very excited about being a tree with "wood and branches".

We are having a costume contest at work, and I think I will definitely turn some heads!
The only things I had to buy were purple fairy wings and face glitter from Hot Topic. I have a black velvet top with bell sleeves, boots and striped stockings, and I even have a black velvet skirt thats got little points and looks very fairy :)

I'm going to work as Cat in the Hat.
I got the hat several years ago - I have a bunch of weird ones I wear when driving around in the hippie bus - I love putting on the Viking helmet and playing 'Ride of the Valkyries' on the stereo!:viking:
My grandson was BORN on Samhain - he's 8 this year - so it has ALWAYS been a big deal with our family. He has been a dragon (my personal fave), a vampire,:vamp::apirate:_wiz_ a wizard, and a pirate among other things. He is also quite the metal-head, along with his dad - AC/DC is his favorite band. After watching "Live at Donington" for the fifth time, he announced that this year for Halloween he wants to be Angus Young!!

This is the first year I didn't get to take my granddaughters trick or treating. But they still got to go. My dear friend agreed to be here when they got home from school and she took them to the mall where the merchants give out candy every year. My daughter and I were stuck at the court house, second day of the trial, and everything has been so chaotic and there is no damn way this is going to be done by tomorrow afternoon so the jury can come back with a verdict on Friday... I'm going to get in the shower after the girls go to bed and just cry for awhile.
