SUPRISE: Chat room!

Hello all!

Ever since the creation of Mystic Wicks lots of members have bugged me off and on about a chat room. Most of you know my feelings about chat rooms and that for
learning they are really not the best medium to implement, thats why we went with a forum type atmosphere.

Well, after quite a bit of consideration...and after Semele getting on my case for some time I have decided to open up a chat room. Now, I couldnt use the
resources on my server for any kind of java chat. So, instead I spent a few dollars to secure a channel on irc. If you know what irc is and how to use it then you
can come and join the channel on efnet. The channels name is #mysticwicks. But first, read on a little bit.

About rules. Mystic Wicks is a family oriented place for learning and discussion. We always try to keep thing fairly clean and mannered. Realize that a chat room
is a completely different animal and as such, it will be treated differently. The atmosphere of discussions in the chat room will be a little more relaxed. All
that we ask is this:

1. No flaming. Dont insult each other.
2. No cybersex in the channel. (You know what Im saying here)

Thats it. If you know how to get on irc. Then jump on EFNET and head to #mysticwicks. Its for fun.

Now, for all of you who have no idea what is going on. I am going to attempt to help here.

First, if you are using windows I would suggest you go here:

Download the program called mIRC and read some of the documents. They are there for a reason.

If you go here:

http://mirc.com/irc.html

You will see some links to other IRC programs. Feel free to try them!

Installing the program should be very easy. After the installation you will want to open the program and connect to the irc network. There are many different irc
networks and most programs seem to default to dalnet or undernet. You will want to change this to EFNET! Then you will want to choose a server, usually the program
will list quite a few. Pick one and connect! When you are connected you will want to join the mysticwicks channel. The programs for connecting to irc usually have
a little command line where you can enter commands. Type: /join #mysticwicks and you will enter the channel. Then you can chat.

If you have any problems then please head to Mystic Wicks (http://www.mysticwicks.com) and go to the 'problems' forum and post about it there. We will work with
you to get you connected.

Thats all folks. I hope that this chat room becomes a cool hangout and a fun place for everyone. We just want to make everyone happy!

No you are not.

You must be on dalnet or some other network. You have to connect to efnet.

in mIRC, in your status window, type /server irc.weblook2k.com

wait for it to connect

if it tells you invalid nick type /nick Faoloan or /nick someNewNickIwant if you try to use a nick someone is already using you can't get on

type /join #mysticwicks

Hey everyone!

I just found a way for all you guys to connect via the web.

http://webmail.cotse.com/JavaIRC/

Go there, click on the link to open the chat window and change:

Server: irc.weblook2k.com
channel: mysticwicks
nick: whateveryouwant

And connect!

That way you dont have to download a program and you can join up at work! Oops. Did I say that?

Ok..having a problem with Cotse. I hit "no" the first time it asked me to download, by mistake. Now whenever I hit "connect to chat"...it's supposed to bring up the message asking me if I want to install and run cotse chat. And it won't. Should I reboot?

Don't use anything but letters or numbers, and the first char must be a letter. No ~@#$@#%(){} or anything. Also keep your nickname short

I have been griped at constantly about the lack of a chat room.

Well, its here. It cost a little more money to setup, as far as server space goes for bot bandwidth, but I am sure it will be worth it.

I'm gonna have to start brewing the coffee all nite long though--when I logged off, it was 4:15am EST and they were still going strong! LOL

FYI.

So that there is no confusion.

I thought I had made the rules of the chat room pretty clear when I sent out the mailing, but it seems they might be unclear.

This place is a pretty safe haven and it always will be. The channel is an extension on MW, however it is more relaxed and at some times it is might not be the best place for some people. Sometimes it serious, and a lot of the time...IT IS NOT.

Its all in fun. If you want questions answered or you want to learn....then THIS is the place. This board. This community.

If you want to lay back and let words fly and land where they may...then #mysticwicks (the chat room) is probably more up your alley.

The two shall work together, but they are no where NEAR the same thing. Dont get them confused.

Ya know Mol, being just a simple practical witch it is amazing I can even find my way onto an email address.... however I followed all of the instructions and I still cannot connect <<<<<sigh>>>>>> however I am sure you can enlighten me as to which country and location I should choose.
