Went and got a reading done at a local shop today by I reader I'd never met before. He was very good. He used the Witches Tarot. I've seen this deck in stores before, but have never actually had the opportunity to look at the cards. Most of the imagery was fairly standard RWS re-interpreted, but the Nine of Pentacles caught me completely off-guard. Upon reflection, the imagery made sense, but it was not an association that I've ever made with that particular card. It depicts a solitary woman who is very, very pregnant. I didn't get a chance to look at any cards other than what showed up in the reading, The Wheel of Fortune (assigned to number XI, not X), The High Priestess, the Nine of Pentacles, the Ace of Pentacles, Death, the Six of Pentacles, and the Three of Cups, and the rest of those followed standard sort of associations. I'm wondering, if anyone has this deck, if there are any other unique perspectives on the cards within it. I'm considering getting it, it was a very powerful reading, and the changed association for the Nine of Pentacles made a great deal of sense in light of current situations.

I presume you mean the Cannon-Reed Witches' Tarot, not the Fergus Hall (007).

I love the artwork on the Cannon-Reed, but I have trouble working things around the way the court cards are utilized, and how, for example, to interpret a king of pents overlaid by a page of cups overlaid by a two of pents ... oh. Wait. I think I may have just had a bit of an inspiration about that, but anyway ...

The artwork is gorgeous, and I have done very powerful readings using that deck. It's been set aside for a while, but like most of the decks that end up being discussed here, it may be time to dust off the box.

After I finish moving.

Yes, the Cannon-Reed one. I'm very intrigued by it. May just have to pick it up next week if I can find it at Borders. If not, I'll be ordering it! Oooh!!! Better idea!!! I've got a dozen or so decks I could sell/trade off in the marketplace  Off I go!

I'm kind of realizing how often my response involves saying something that includes, "Ooh, I have that deck but I don't use it enough."

Me too! I'll be talking to someone, and they'll mention the deck they're using. "Oh... I have that one... somewhere..."

I have that deck, but it's not one that I really care for. I think I've only used it a few times.

I have it too. It's one of those Swords/Fire, Wands/Air decks.

I'm afraid to say I hate it. I hate almost everything about it. The artwork is cheesy and what's with all the muscular dudes? I hate the fact that the court cards look exactly the same in all the suits except for the color clothing they wear. I just hate it. I inherited it from a friend who decided she wasn't into tarot anymore and I just looked at it once or twice and put it away for ever.

I think it's probably a good deck if you're into Wicca, but I just can't get past the muscular Arnold Schwarzenegger types on some of the cards. :P

 I'm not into Wicca, most Wiccans are a tad bit frightened of me... I'm generally very picky about my decks, but the reading that I received with it today was... extraordinary. Now, a great deal of it was the reader himself, he was very good, very intuitive, very perceptive, but the cards that came out were... perfect for the situation, and answered the question very clearly. I had no court cards at all in the reading, so have no frame of reference for what they look like. I've tried to find a site that has images of the whole deck, so that I can see them all before making the leap and buying them, but am having no luck.

I'm sorting through my decks right now and am going to post several for trade on the marketplace here. That way, if I end up not liking the deck, I'm only out a deck that I never use anyway, and a small bit of postage, and can trade it or pass it on somewhere along the way :D

Yes, I noticed that most of the sites I usually check for images of the whole deck don't seem to have this one. So I decided to upload it into my Gallery in my blog. It should be up in a few minutes. I'll edit this post with the link when I'm done. :)

Sweet! Thank you! My Orphalese Tarot software is not connecting to the deck exchange, and I haven't been able to download it through there, which is how I usually check out decks before buying them.

I know, me too! I'm so lost without it! The Orphalese deck exchange server went out of business and they're trying to get another one as soon as possible. It might take a week or so, apparently. :sniffsnif

At least I know it's not just me! I have several decks I'm interested in, and I don't want to spend the cash on them until I can try them out!

Okay, those Swords are very obviously fire, and that would sooooo throw me off! Didn't have any swords or wands in the reading done for me to day, so didn't even see the switch-up! And I can see what you mean about the muscles!!! What's up with that?

I just found the whole deck rather generic.

I'm kind of wondering what's up with that Six of Swords???

That Six of Swords clashes completely with the whole rest of the deck. It looks almost like some strange afterthought. "Oh, we forgot the Six of Swords?? This'll do!"

Don't know about that either! But it read very, very well for me today. Even the odd attribution on the Nine of Pentacles was spot on for something on my mind this last week.

Hey, I have a friend in the US who reads with this deck and she's really amazing. I guess it all depends if you connect with it or not. I never did, so it doesn't work well for me at all.

I have several decks that I don't connect with at all. They end up making their way into the hands of others who connect with them instantly and beautifully.

I think that the companion book is very much needed for this deck, but unfortunately, I didn't inherit it along with the deck. Maybe Wolf can tell us what that Six of Swords means.

The companion book isn't really good either. The 6 of swords says:

"Self-sacrifice, the right action, a step toward spirituality, one who tries to better the world by action. If Querent or subject of reading has not made this step, he or she will, must. Rebirth.
Reversed: Selfishness, failure to do what is right, preverted sacrafice; i.e., sacrafice of another."

Because you can SO see that in that card... _whistle_

They look more like Boris Vallejo to me.

That's a deck I've been wanting... didn't know about the sword/fire thing and since that's how I read... I'm interested in it more now.

I know others who prefer that as well. But I learned on Swords=Air, Wands=Fire, and that's the association that I make in ritual as well, so the other doesn't make much sense to me. I can't quite make myself see how Swords could be Fire and Wands could be Air, so in decks where the association is obvious, I have a great deal of difficulty.

I love my deck. I use it most of the time now.
