I will be dropping Toria off at a Halloween party here in a few minutes. Since she will be dropped off I decided I should go over someone touching her again, just so it was fresh in her mind.

But then I thought we discuss what to do if someone tries to touch her quite a bit. Do you think it is possible to over discuss it and turn them into a child that might lie about it since they then know what a big deal it is?

Kinda seems like a balancing act cause right before that we where discussing lying and how important it was to not do that.

Just thought I would see what every one else thought about this.

Maybe not lie, but maybe paranoid.

If you remind her during conversatins at home, or in a safe place, try keeping it simple when dropping her off. Something like, "Have fun, be cafreful, and call me if there is any reason or need to!" That will bring that, and many other potential dangers to mind for her to remember to be aware of.

I gurantee I would be paranoid about letting a girl child go somewhere alone, and would never let one wear a dress outside!

Best wishes!

I think it needs to be something that's internalized... but not brow beaten in... I want my daughter to look for and expect the world to be a good place, but be very clear that there are a few bad people out there and know about what a 'bad' person is.

We occasionally go over what's 'bad' as "a bad person hurts other people on purpose, asks them to keep scarey secrets, doesn't respect privacy, or feelings, or tries to physically force others to do things or go places. If you feel a person is bad, get away from them right away, and tell someone you trust.... no matter WHAT a bad person might say to scare you, I love you and NO ONE is allowed to mess with my BABY!"

to which my daughter often replies, "And I can kick them in the balls too, right?"

lol.... she's after my own heart... the little darlin'!

Kids retain far more than you think. This is quite evident when they repeat things you'd rather they not repeat; usually in situations where it is most embarrassing. If you've discussed these kinds of situations and how to handle them, small refreshers are all that's needed. I wouldn't comment before a party, it would probably put her too much on guard and she may not have fun.
