You would think that humanity(who is supposed to have evolved past this!!) could let go of such hatred and fear.

I have let them have my opinions as well.

You know, this reminds me of something that practically outraged me.
I went and picked up an encyclopedia in our "brand new" library. The most technologically advanced in the state of Ohio. I looked up the word Wicca....do you know what it said?
"A devil worshipping faith, witches often have covens with 13 members and worship the devil with satanic rites on the Sabbat by sacrificing animals in the full moon". At first I was like "no way!" Then I was like......."did they even bother to find out if they were publishing factual information?"
In the end, I pointed out to a librarian the error to which she replied, "what do you want me to do, I didn't write the book".
Isn't that some form of descrimination? There would be serious legal action if the error had been about a major religion.
Ah well....I can't say that I'm still angry, but very disapointed that there is so much ignorance actively going on, even today.
In perfect love and trust,
Shy Hawk

I read the article and I'm outraged. What started as a good article became a bad one as soon as the author made an incorrect statement about the neo-pagan religions. I follow Wicca (like many of you) and I never have and never will discriminate because of gender, race, sexual preference, etc. Come on, I don't even hate the man who almost took my life on several occasions. I'm not a hateful person and that's all there is to it.

I will be saving this link and tommorow (when I'm fully awake) I will be responding to this article.

Thank you for sharing this link Kaylara.

Sweetest of dreams,
Maeve

:p I've given up getting angry about theses things. Now I simply find them humorous. I guess I'm not following this relgion correctly because I don't hate gay people, I don't worship or even believe in Satan for that matter and I have never sacrificed anything on a full moon or any other day!! Oh well...I suppose ignorance is bliss for them because they obviously make no effort to learn the truth!!

Without science, we wouldn't be able to make contact on this site with our computers... I wouldn't be able to see (no glasses or contact lenses)... so not all science is bad, I feel. There is little in life that doesn't have a 'double-edge' to it!

So long as the patriarchs rule, no woman, man, or child
will ever be free of fear, hate, and obsession with death.
Some of the christians I work with tell me that they are
afraid of death, and ask me why I don't.
I explain that with the Goddess there is no need to
fear death, but they still don't get it.

MM,
I didn't know Georgia was number four in having the most hate groups  . Thats sad! I know there are a lot of Christians here that don't like pagans, homosexuals, ect... but it surprised me. I sent a letter giving my opinion. :)

As far as science goes...with it, you both gain and lose...it depends on what you value more. I think science is great....when used ethically. Maybe this is part of the problem...everyone's view of what is exactly ethical is different.
As far as hate groups go...I'm originally from NY where there's both all kinds of people and people to hate each kind. Then I moved to Ohio. Ohio is mainly Conservative. However, mark my words. People will surprise you. I have met many a kind and generous person who disagrees with my way of life, and still treats me with respect.
We shouldn't all retreat at the first sign of opposition. We should embrace others and expect the best of them. Not the worst.

 I don't understand, don't reporters have to check facts.

On a similar subject, my local paper ran an article this past Sunday regarding a "new" catholic group called "Opus Dei". It is supposed that it is a "secret" society and that members range from very important goverment figures to you joe shmoe next door. The idea of the group is that anyone can be close to God, not just priests and nuns. And that you can bring these ideas into your family and work life. The group has methods that some say aren't "normal". Constant prayer, retreats, you have to give a portion (if not all) your earnings to supporting the group, and things like self punishment for sins. It bothered me a great deal, because it seems that the people who are part of this organization are set on making their way, the "ONLY WAY" Which, we all know being open minded people, isn't necessarily true.

Apparently this group is setting up their headquarters in NYC, which is very close to where I live. This is why I haven't come out of the "broom closet" because of people who feel they need to join these groups, whether hate groups or just religous fanatics.

I'm glad you put quotes around the word "new". That sect sounds awfully familiar to many I have read about and frankly I don't know why anyone would think that was new at all.
I know how it is to be afraid though. So far, God and Goddess be blessed, it hasn't been an issue as far as work or school or friends. However, some of my family opposes my "strange way of worshipping", so I just as well not tell them. I am afterall, still a minor and living in my parents home.
